[00:45:48] <hazzy-m> Lcvette: Oh man, glad it worked out!
[00:46:04] <hazzy-m> Those little lathes are not bad then tuned up
[00:46:25] <hazzy-m> I scraped mine all in and it is very decent, the weak link is the motor
[00:46:44] <hazzy-m> but its hardly worth the effort to fit a better one
[00:47:19] <Lcvette> I HAVE A FEW MOTORS LAYING AROUND
[00:47:28] <Lcvette> HAVE THE STOCK MOTOR FROM THE g0704
[00:47:35] <Lcvette> whoops sorry for caps
[00:47:58] <hazzy-m> oh, the G0704 motor would be perfect
[00:48:06] <Lcvette> i think its a little bigger
[00:48:29] <hazzy-m> yea, and the control is much better
[00:48:43] <Lcvette> control on mine is great
[00:48:51] <Lcvette> potentiometer
[00:48:53] <Lcvette> lol
[00:48:56] <Lcvette> :D
[00:49:02] <hazzy-m> haha
[00:49:03] <Lcvette> rpm by ear
[00:49:41] <hazzy-m> BTW, got that 1.5HP inverter duty motor wired up on the bench this evening
[00:49:46] <hazzy-m> runs great!
[00:49:53] <Lcvette> nice
[00:49:55] <hazzy-m> buttery smooth to 5400rpm
[00:49:59] <Lcvette> that thing is a sweet sweet motor
[00:50:05] <hazzy-m> it is
[00:50:26] <Lcvette> you will be very happy you snatched one up while they were available
[00:50:52] <hazzy-m> what motor to spindle ratio do you suggest? I think you said one to one
[00:51:09] <Lcvette> depends on what you want to do
[00:51:39] <Lcvette> 1 ro 1 may be a bit anemic up top as it starts fading horsepower after two times the rated rpm
[00:52:07] <hazzy-m> ah, right, I had not thought about that
[00:52:29] <hazzy-m> I was mostly thinking about low end touque for tapping, but that might be less of a problem atualy
[00:52:36] <Lcvette> but a 1:1 would be insane for 0-3600rpm work
[00:53:07] <Lcvette> it would tap 1" threads with a 1:1
[00:53:13] <Lcvette> probably biugger
[00:53:14] <Lcvette> lol
[00:53:21] <hazzy-m> ok, sweet!
[00:53:52] <hazzy-m> I'm happy with 3600rpm
[00:53:55] <Lcvette> what drive?
[00:54:04] <hazzy-m> and anything over that will likly be small diameter/low power
[00:54:23] <hazzy-m> thinking about using a GS2, but I also have a STMBL ...
[00:54:35] <hazzy-m> running a GS1 now
[00:55:05] <Lcvette> if you have the space for a dual pulley, that would be ideal
[00:55:27] <Lcvette> 2:3 3:2
[00:55:41] <hazzy-m> I saw sombody on instagram that had this sweed dual pully set up, that could be switched over on the fly
[00:55:42] <Lcvette> then it would really be sweet
[00:56:00] <Lcvette> yeah setup like the fadals
[00:56:05] <Lcvette> using the air cylinders
[00:56:05] <hazzy-m> yes, that would cover the whole range real well
[00:56:13] <hazzy-m> yes
[00:56:38] <Lcvette> just don't foprget the power drawbar
[00:56:38] <Lcvette> :D
[00:57:08] <hazzy-m> haha, it's sitting patiently on the bench :)
[00:57:37] <Lcvette> it needs some room
[00:58:00] <Lcvette> if you did a 2:3 3:2 the belt would be the same length
[00:58:27] <Lcvette> could use a single tall idler bearing and a lever as a tensioner to swap it over
[00:58:45] <Lcvette> if you didn't want to go through the fancy air cylinder setup
[00:58:50] <Lcvette> but that is cool
[00:59:08] <Lcvette> just have to be careful not to put too much side load on the motor bearings
[00:59:15] <hazzy-m> it is so cool, but just a little cam lever would be fine too
[00:59:42] <Lcvette> it has a gear box?
[01:01:51] <hazzy-m> yes, hoping to fit everything in there
[01:02:51] <Lcvette> picture of the mill?
[01:02:58] <Lcvette> is it like the pm727?
[01:03:37] <hazzy-m> https://goo.gl
[01:03:56] <hazzy-m> yes, almost identica
[01:04:00] <hazzy-m> l
[01:07:28] <Lcvette> https://cnc4xr7.com
[01:07:39] <Lcvette> my biddies are making some parts for the 727's
[01:07:47] <Lcvette> buddies
[01:07:49] <Lcvette> lol
[01:08:20] <Lcvette> https://cnc4xr7.com
[01:08:28] <Lcvette> that power drawbar look familiar?
[01:08:30] <Lcvette> lol
[01:08:45] <Lcvette> i gave my buddy Wyatt one
[01:09:05] <Lcvette> they now make them and sell them
[01:09:13] <hazzy-m> Hey, I think he is not far from me!
[01:09:21] <Lcvette> Sam isn't
[01:09:28] <Lcvette> he is in GA
[01:09:32] <Lcvette> right outside Atlanta
[01:09:48] <hazzy-m> he recently posted them on insta, looked awfully familiar
[01:09:49] <hazzy-m> lol
[01:10:40] <Lcvette> its literally an exact copy
[01:11:22] <Lcvette> I also helped them design the belt drive conversion
[01:11:36] <Lcvette> and put them in touch with one of my manufacturers to make them
[01:11:47] <hazzy-m> Nice!
[01:13:09] <Not-e6c6> [02qtpyvcp] 07KurtJacobson created branch 03DataChannel - 13https://git.io/fhCou
[01:13:10] <Not-e6c6> [02qtpyvcp] 07KurtJacobson pushed 033 commits to 03DataChannel [+3/-0/±27] 13https://git.io/fhy58
[01:13:12] <Not-e6c6> [02qtpyvcp] 07KurtJacobson 0320e3cdb - new DataChannel implementation
[01:13:13] <Not-e6c6> [02qtpyvcp] 07KurtJacobson 032e0e90f - partialy working DataChannels
[01:13:14] <Not-e6c6> [02qtpyvcp] 07KurtJacobson 03d537662 - use getValue, getString and setValue channel methods
[01:13:29] <Lcvette> they are running a 1.75:1 ratio with that motor
[01:14:04] <Lcvette> 6300rpm
[01:14:16] <hazzy-m> yep, if thats proven then I might do the same, no need to make it more complicated then needed
[01:14:20] <Lcvette> full horsepower from the motor minus the step up ratio
[01:14:32] <hazzy-m> but the fadal stype would be so much fun ...
[01:14:35] <Lcvette> just be sure all your bearings can handle it
[01:14:43] <hazzy-m> stype = style + type
[01:14:44] <hazzy-m> LOL
[01:14:51] <Lcvette> hahaha
[01:15:05] <hazzy-m> I've replaced most of the breaings
[01:15:14] <hazzy-m> need to do the spindle
[01:15:22] <hazzy-m> I think I'm gonna go with AC
[01:15:23] <Lcvette> use nachi tapered rollers
[01:15:29] <Lcvette> NOOOOO
[01:15:36] <hazzy-m> oh!
[01:15:44] <Lcvette> AC is the wrong choice
[01:16:08] <Lcvette> your spindle cartridge isn't designed for them
[01:16:20] <Lcvette> you would be running only a single pair
[01:16:28] <Lcvette> not a good idea
[01:16:48] <hazzy-m> ok, I always wondered baout that, and you can't use matched pais either
[01:17:06] <hazzy-m> and thermal expantion chanes the preload because of the largh didtants between them
[01:17:06] <Lcvette> theres no room in hobby mills
[01:17:38] <hazzy-m> sweet, well tapperd rollers are cheaper anyway
[01:17:39] <Lcvette> the issue is the single bearing isn't equipped for the load
[01:17:57] <Lcvette> the nachi tapered rollers are THEE choice
[01:18:12] <Lcvette> I have had nothing but incredible success with them and stupid low runout
[01:18:28] <Lcvette> as in sub 0.0001"
[01:18:39] <hazzy-m> one problem I have is the lower bearing bore is about .0005 out of round :(
[01:18:51] <hazzy-m> I need to lap it in, but there is not much to work with
[01:18:54] <Lcvette> and they are good to probbaly 6000-6400 with grease in your size
[01:19:13] <hazzy-m> that is plenty fast! weehaw!!
[01:19:42] <Lcvette> you will be amazed at how nice they run
[01:19:50] <Lcvette> awesome finishes
[01:19:53] <Lcvette> nice rigid bearings
[01:20:39] <hazzy-m> the ones in there now swing the spindle side to side at a very predicatbale rate of once per 8 revs
[01:20:41] <hazzy-m> I think it has a fat roller
[01:20:55] <Lcvette> lol
[01:21:10] <Lcvette> oh.. do not remove the quill drive tube either
[01:21:16] <Lcvette> keep it as your drive
[01:21:26] <hazzy-m> I will for sure
[01:21:41] <hazzy-m> don't want to add any extra load on the spindle bearings
[01:22:09] <Lcvette> it keeps the load strictly rotational and directly above the top tapered roller spindle bearing
[01:22:13] <Lcvette> yup
[01:22:17] <Lcvette> you got it
[01:22:46] <hazzy-m> also creats a little seperating between any belt induced vabration
[01:22:49] <Lcvette> lots of folks put a pulley 6-8" up on the spindle and wonder why shit never works out..lol
[01:23:02] <hazzy-m> I've seen that LOL
[01:23:18] <Lcvette> you shouldn't have any vibrations going to a 6rib polyv if you use a quality belt
[01:23:22] <Lcvette> should be smooth as silk
[01:23:28] <hazzy-m> ok
[01:23:44] <hazzy-m> do you make your own pullies?
[01:23:50] <Lcvette> providing your pulleys are on center
[01:23:57] <Lcvette> yeah i have
[01:24:04] <Lcvette> but im down a lathe for the moment
[01:24:06] <Lcvette> lol
[01:24:14] <Lcvette> i used to make them on my G0704
[01:24:18] <hazzy-m> hehe, you got the HF :)
[01:25:02] <hazzy-m> you would not beileave what I have done on that horror freight lathe
[01:25:02] <Lcvette> https://youtu.be
[01:25:02] <hazzy-m> lol
[01:25:22] <hazzy-m> oh, CNC
[01:25:25] <hazzy-m> that's cheating
[01:25:26] <hazzy-m> hahah
[01:26:03] <Lcvette> yeah try making those pulleys manually
[01:26:05] <Lcvette> mah
[01:26:27] <hazzy-m> I have done it! Many a time
[01:26:46] <hazzy-m> dial indicator on the bed and your good to go
[01:27:40] <Lcvette> and all the special radius's?
[01:27:46] <Lcvette> radii
[01:27:57] <Lcvette> thats better looking
[01:27:57] <Lcvette> lol
[01:27:59] <hazzy-m> yes, I have form tools
[01:28:10] <hazzy-m> but its a huge pain
[01:28:26] <Lcvette> lol
[01:28:32] <Lcvette> look whose cheating
[01:28:39] <Lcvette> making your conversion on a haas
[01:28:42] <Lcvette> booo
[01:28:46] <hazzy-m> xD
[01:30:32] <Lcvette> man what is the width and depth of your column
[01:30:47] <Lcvette> looks big to fit gas springs inside of it
[01:31:06] <Lcvette> thats a nice machine
[01:31:50] <hazzy-m> its 7.5in along X and 7in in Y
[01:31:55] <Lcvette> needs an enclosure and flood coolant
[01:32:03] <hazzy-m> it does!
[01:32:03] <Lcvette> thats pretty beefy
[01:32:22] <hazzy-m> yea, its a very decent machine
[01:32:52] <Lcvette> when you make the enclosure, don't do like every other nut hugger in the world and bring everything to the base
[01:33:14] <Lcvette> its a terrible design
[01:33:19] <Lcvette> trust me i followed the others and regret it
[01:33:20] <hazzy-m> LOL, it is
[01:33:29] <hazzy-m> needs to go the the front
[01:33:32] <Lcvette> make it like that TL haas and slope it forward
[01:33:41] <hazzy-m> or back you can clean it out
[01:33:42] <Lcvette> make a front trough
[01:35:05] * Lcvette uploaded an image: G0704 Pan with Auger.jpg (193KB) < https://matrix.org >
[01:35:22] <hazzy-m> that looks nice!
[01:35:24] <Lcvette> thats the one i never built for the G0704
[01:35:27] <hazzy-m> I have an auger ...
[01:35:48] <Lcvette> thats a HF auger
[01:35:50] <Lcvette> :D
[01:36:06] <Lcvette> that design is awesome!
[01:36:17] <Lcvette> compact and easy to clean
[01:36:39] <hazzy-m> hohoho, HF auger is a great idea!
[01:37:41] <Lcvette> yeah they are like $30
[01:37:55] * Lcvette uploaded an image: G0704 Machine and Enclosure Complete.jpg (102KB) < https://matrix.org >
[01:38:34] <Lcvette> you can find 1/4" or 3/8" polycarbonate and just bend it to make the walls of the enclosure for good viewing and light
[01:38:44] <Lcvette> and won't make your shop shrink
[01:39:20] <Lcvette> 3/8" doesn't even need framing for the doors
[01:42:27] <hazzy-m> I have a source for cheap PC, I need to get on this
[01:42:38] <Lcvette> i love my PC enclosure
[01:42:52] <Lcvette> i also made my pan and back wall out of aluminum
[01:43:01] <Lcvette> no paint no rust always looks clean
[01:43:06] * hazzy-m lost internet
[01:43:09] <Lcvette> always bright
[01:43:43] <hazzy-m> And easy to work with too
[01:43:48] <Lcvette> yeah
[01:43:54] <Lcvette> so long as you have an ac tig
[01:44:09] <Lcvette> or can mig aluminum
[01:44:37] <hazzy-m> It's a good excuse to get an AC Tig!
[01:44:45] <Lcvette> lol
[01:45:04] <Lcvette> on that note, lcvette is wiped out and gonna get some sleep, have another long day manana
[01:45:32] <hazzy-m> Same here. Thanks for all the great advice!
[01:45:40] <Lcvette> yup yup!
[01:45:42] <hazzy-m> Night
[01:45:45] <Lcvette> night bud
[05:40:08] <JT-qtpyvcp> morning
[08:05:45] <JT-qtpyvcp> yea just finished installing debian 9 and qtpyvcp following my instructions and the docs and everything went smooth
[08:10:17] <JT-qtpyvcp> I think the hard coded file open should be removed... the error does show up unable to open file when starting the mini

[08:38:15] <jthornton> geez windblows froze up so now I have to go the NAS and delete the excel lock file for my chicken spreadsheet lol
[08:56:03] <Lcvette> oh no
[09:41:14] <hazzy-m> did you mean NSA? Lol
[09:41:14] <hazzy-m> Morning

[16:29:39] <Lcvette> :(
[16:30:13] <Lcvette> What's rc?
[16:33:32] <Lcvette> What's a module
[16:33:41] <Lcvette> Hazzy must have made something bew
[16:33:49] <Lcvette> New
[16:38:31] <TurBoss> oi
[16:38:34] <TurBoss> ok
[16:40:35] <JT-qtpyvcp> TurBoss, did you do a pull on master?
[16:40:54] <TurBoss> hi JT
[16:41:04] <TurBoss> I merged master onto lathe branch
[16:41:14] <TurBoss> trying to run lathe probebasic
[16:43:07] <JT-qtpyvcp> hmm, I see in my history Merge branch 'master' into Lathe_Touch_off
[16:43:33] <TurBoss> yes that
[16:44:40] <JT-qtpyvcp> I switched to lathe touch off and see probe_basic_rc in the examples
[16:45:40] <JT-qtpyvcp> maybe qtpyvcp can't find it for some reason?
[16:45:48] <JT-qtpyvcp> gotta get back to work
[16:45:51] <TurBoss> I need to compile it ?
[16:45:53] <TurBoss> duno
[17:09:53] <JT-qtpyvcp> I get a lot of Unknown property justify when I edit probe basic in brobe basic lathe
[17:11:45] <TurBoss> ?
[17:11:47] <TurBoss> what?=
[17:12:28] <TurBoss> editvcp probebasic?
[17:12:52] <hazzy-m> TurBoss: you need to compile to get the _rc.py file
[17:12:59] <TurBoss> ok
[17:12:59] <JT-qtpyvcp> yea editvcp examples/probe_basic_lathe/probe_basic.yml
[17:13:01] <TurBoss> how?
[17:13:17] <hazzy-m> qcompile path/to/probbeasic/dir
[17:13:58] <TurBoss> ERROR - unable to call pyuic5
[17:14:00] <TurBoss> I broke it
[17:15:35] <JT-qtpyvcp> what and where is the _rc.py file?
[17:16:03] <hazzy-m> you need the pyqt5-devtools package
[17:16:06] <hazzy-m> sek
[17:16:25] <TurBoss> oh true
[17:16:37] <hazzy-m> pyqt5-dev-tools
[17:17:04] <TurBoss> allready installed
[17:17:19] <TurBoss> ok
[17:17:26] <TurBoss> reinstalled
[17:17:31] <TurBoss> thanks
[17:17:35] <hazzy-m> the *_rc.py files are compiled versions of the .qrc QRecource files, used for icons etc.
[17:17:44] <TurBoss> maybe I did mess it with sip thing
[17:17:45] <TurBoss> now works
[17:18:01] <hazzy-m> ah yes, probably
[17:18:05] <hazzy-m> Hurray!
[17:18:05] <JT-qtpyvcp> ah ok
[17:19:22] * TurBoss uploaded an image: Captura de pantalla_2019-02-01_23-19-04.png (230KB) < https://matrix.org >
[17:19:33] <TurBoss> Lcvette: I have this
[17:19:39] <TurBoss> i need the other buttons
[17:19:41] <TurBoss> :D
[17:21:32] <Lcvette> They are in the file
[17:25:53] <TurBoss> okey!
[18:39:38] <JT-qtpyvcp> hazzy-m, how hard would it be to have a label with a rule? so for example it could say X Axis and after homing X Axis *
[18:40:26] <hazzy-m> very easy!
[18:40:29] <hazzy-m> sek
[18:41:53] <JT-qtpyvcp> cool

[22:17:41] <Lcvette> Story of my life
[22:17:59] <Lcvette> My bearing blocks needed some work
[22:18:06] <Lcvette> Cheap Chinese junk
[22:19:01] <Lcvette> Bearing pocket was too small and the pressed the bearing in which deformed it and made it notchy
[22:19:10] <TurBoss> fu
[22:19:22] <Lcvette> Had to put it in my mini lathe to fix it
[22:19:48] <Lcvette> And add a Shim between the bearings so there wouldn't be any backlash
[22:20:07] <Lcvette> Need to do the z axis tomorrow
[22:20:19] <Lcvette> Then can remodel and put the motors on
[22:20:30] <TurBoss> great

[22:22:57] <Lcvette> So when you select a tool it will highlight one of those
[22:24:03] <TurBoss> ahhhhh ok!
