[11:36:03] <Lcvette> hazzy, my linux pc is making noises
[11:37:04] <hazzy-m> uh oh
[11:37:11] <hazzy-m> what kind?
[11:37:19] <hazzy-m> is there a cat stuck in it?
[11:39:58] * Lcvette uploaded a video: VID_20190219_113754291.mp4 (32633KB) < https://matrix.org >
[11:40:15] <jthornton> lol
[11:40:40] <Lcvette> like a humming sound that goes in waves
[11:40:51] <Lcvette> tried to send a video of it but then remembered you have no speakers
[11:41:14] <jthornton> that's your flux capacitor about to blow up
[11:41:28] <Lcvette> sounds about right
[11:41:36] <hazzy-m> I told you there was a cat stuck in it!
[11:41:37] <Lcvette> 88.8jiggawatts
[11:41:38] <hazzy-m> LOL
[11:41:51] <jthornton> or the warp drive
[11:42:02] <hazzy-m> haha
[11:42:14] <Lcvette> needs more dilithium crystals?
[11:42:26] <jthornton> that would be my guess
[11:42:32] <hazzy-m> I think it is just resonance in the case from the fan, try banging it lightly and see if it goes away
[11:42:50] <jthornton> I usually just put my finger on each fan to stop it and find out which one is bad
[11:42:52] <Lcvette> sounds like a good solid scientific fix
[11:43:30] <Lcvette> banging on it fixed it
[11:43:40] <Lcvette> i'll never doubt again
[11:43:48] <hazzy-m> that works 99.99% of the time, lol
[11:44:17] <Lcvette> so is this like putting electrical tap over a check engine light to make it go away?
[11:44:19] <Lcvette> lol
[11:44:30] <hazzy-m> yes
[11:44:33] <hazzy-m> haha
[11:45:35] <hazzy-m> on the corvair I just wiggle the wires under the dash to turn the engine light off, workes every time
[11:46:18] <hazzy-m> minor side effect, it also causes the file gauge to stop working ...
[11:46:26] <hazzy-m> fule*
[11:46:33] <hazzy-m> fuel*
[11:46:35] <hazzy-m> lol
[11:48:53] <hazzy-m> Lcvette: did you notice the desktop notifications?
[11:49:20] <Lcvette> what desktop notifications?
[11:50:13] <Lcvette> do they work in full screen mode?
[11:54:41] <Lcvette> ?
[11:59:29] <Lcvette> hazzy, i was wondering if it would be prudent to ask Rene if we could borrow his tool table format for the tool library table so when he is finished with the new tool table design it would maybe be an easier transition?
[12:00:01] <Lcvette> at least the database driven table would already be in place and be the same?
[12:01:45] <Lcvette> just trying to think as a future proofer might
[12:27:45] <hazzy-m> unfortunately that would not really help much, even if we found some way to use a database based table it we would still be limited by LCNC, so there would be no advantage
[12:28:47] <Lcvette> I don't think you are understanding my meaning
[12:28:58] <Lcvette> i am referring to the tool library, not the tool table
[12:29:08] <Lcvette> the one for being able to enter ALL your tools
[12:31:03] <hazzy-m> yes, I understand, but who is the going to work? Checkboxes by the tools you want to use in the current program?
[12:31:30] <Lcvette> thats what the import button is for
[12:32:21] <Lcvette> click the import button and it brings up the tool library, then you select the tool you want to copy over and click ok and it populates
[12:32:50] <Lcvette> export would work in reverse
[12:32:55] <Lcvette> this way you can retain your offsets
[12:33:30] <hazzy-m> that may work, how do you set the pocket number? easch time you import/
[12:33:47] <Lcvette> linuxcnc should be doing that
[12:34:06] <Lcvette> they are sequential
[12:34:59] <hazzy-m> well you will have to have duplicate pocket numbers in the tool library
[12:35:21] <Lcvette> i would leave pocket number out of the library
[12:35:41] <Lcvette> skip that entry when imported
[12:35:59] <Lcvette> when a new tool line is created in the table it auro populates it with the next sequential number already
[12:36:06] <Lcvette> auto
[12:36:48] <Lcvette> so import button would function as an add tool command
[12:36:56] <Lcvette> which creates a new tool line
[12:37:40] <Lcvette> then takes your to the library page where you select the tool to import and click ok and it brings over everything except the pocket number
[12:48:50] <Lcvette> does that make sense?
[12:51:33] <Lcvette> I know there are alot of people who would think 56 tools is alot of tools
[12:51:45] <Lcvette> but the reality is that isn't many at all
[12:52:58] <Lcvette> you chew through half of that with just a small array of metric and standard taps and dedicated tap drills
[12:54:52] <Lcvette> its nice having all of your tooling data stored in the controller with the offsets stored so the tools are ready to go when needed
[12:56:26] <Lcvette> i know currently linuxcnc cannot do that, but this method would at least ofer a much better solution than having to delete tools to oblivion only to have to manualy enter data to add in the tools for a new job
[12:56:59] <Lcvette> having a complete list in a seperate library that can also store offsets that would match your cam program would be very helpful.
[12:57:55] <Lcvette> it wouldn't currently have any interaction with lcnc, only interaction with the data in the tool table in the gui
[13:18:55] <hazzy-m> yes, i think that could work
[13:19:08] <hazzy-m> I need to think a little more about the implimentation
[13:19:25] <hazzy-m> for example, what happens then you touch off a tool in the machine?
[13:19:38] <Lcvette> same as always
[13:19:46] <Lcvette> it does nothing different
[13:19:53] <hazzy-m> are are you assuming the tools length offset is premeasured?
[13:19:56] <Lcvette> it only writes to the main tool table
[13:20:05] <hazzy-m> oh, yeah, no differance
[13:20:08] <hazzy-m> lol
[13:20:10] <hazzy-m> ok
[13:20:30] <Lcvette> youn could then export that tool back to the tool library with the updated data
[13:20:56] <Lcvette> this way you could measure online or offline
[13:21:12] <Lcvette> pass data back and forth either way
[13:21:57] <Lcvette> but if i wanted to measure 500 tools on the bench and enter them into the tool library, it would bring those offsets in when they were written
[13:22:32] <Lcvette> but it would only bring the tool data to the tool table one tool at a time as each was imported
[13:22:46] <Lcvette> it keeps the main table what it is, basically disposable
[13:24:50] <hazzy-m> what happened to hulk smacher?
[13:25:21] <Lcvette> oh i was testing functionality again
[13:25:22] <Lcvette> lol
[13:25:27] <Lcvette> it got deleted
[13:25:29] <Lcvette> but the delete button works!
[13:25:34] <Lcvette> so does the save button!
[13:25:35] <Lcvette> :D
[13:25:54] <hazzy-m> Hurray!
