[09:56:09] <roguish[m]> on spare ssd
[09:56:26] <roguish[m]> following http://gnipsel.com
[09:57:51] <jthornton> morning
[10:22:40] <roguish[m]> oh poo. didn't realize with the Mint I'd have to build lcnc. reverting to Debian 9, stretch 8
[10:24:07] <hazzy-m> roguish You don't, you can install from buildbot on mint 19.1
[10:25:32] <roguish[m]> well. JT's instructions call for a git clone...... no worries. I'm used to stretch. just want a very simple, clean install.
[10:25:59] <roguish[m]> I found my watchdog bit the other day.
[10:26:15] <roguish[m]> now need to take care of some wiring noise.
[10:26:24] <roguish[m]> and get a newer, better mill.

[10:36:10] <hazzy-m> morning!
[10:39:33] <Lcvette> how goes the settings?
[10:39:57] <Lcvette> need some help?
[10:56:15] <hazzy-m> settings are done for modules, not need to figure out how to make them work for classes so they can be used for widgets
[10:57:00] <Lcvette> ok
[10:57:05] <hazzy-m> they will be great for things like show program bounds in VTK since they will keep the buttons in sync

[16:48:43] -!- Guido_ has joined #hazzy
[16:54:18] <Guido_> Appropriate greeting to wherever in the world you are. I was trying to play around with qtpyvcp tonight following install instruction on qtpyvcp.kcjengr.com. However, I fail using a mint isntallation of debian stretch to install vtk using pip or any other mean of install. any work around there? Do i have to build vtk from scratch?
[16:58:12] <JT-Shop> what version of debian are you using?
[16:58:42] <JT-Shop> oh you said stretch lol
[16:59:51] <JT-Shop> Guido_: you still around?
[17:00:07] <Guido_> I am:) (its stretch 4.9.110
[17:00:37] <JT-Shop> what does uname -a return?
[17:01:33] <Guido_> 4.9.0-8-686-pae #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Debian 4.9.110-3+deb9u6 (2018-10-08)
[17:01:39] <hazzy-m> Guido_: what errors do you get when trying to install VTK with pip?
[17:02:10] <JT-Shop> that should just work, are you doing the quick start or the dev install?
[17:02:25] <Guido_> "Could not find a version that satifies the requirement vtk ..."
[17:02:35] * JT-Shop hands the baton to hazzy-m
[17:02:35] <Guido_> I tried the quick install
[17:04:00] <Guido_> the quick install gets thrown when trying to install vtk (with the rror mentioned above)
[17:04:29] <Guido_> the same is true when I try to install it "manually"... apt-get wont find anything either
[17:04:41] <hazzy-m> interesting ...
[17:06:05] <hazzy-m> I was just able to install VTK here with `pip install vtk` on mint 19.1
[17:06:12] <hazzy-m> give me a sek I'll try on debin stretch
[17:06:28] <Guido_> I thought so too - I'm not particularly familiar with Linux. However, I attempted to do my homework using google. Not the most meaningful error message. I also tried vtk through pypi.org using a wheel installation. It won't have that either
[17:06:37] <Guido_> sure
[17:09:03] <Guido_> (It might be worth pointing out, that I don't care much about which distro im using - If mint does do the trick, I'll be happy to switch:). I just found BigJohnTs website with lots of info an that (and mesa 7i76e)
[17:12:34] <hazzy-m> I can't get the stretch machine to connect to the internet, since the sun it out lol
[17:12:53] <hazzy-m> have you tried updating pip?
[17:13:27] <hazzy-m> pip install -U pip
[17:14:17] <Guido_> will try now...
[17:15:23] <JT-Shop> I can build a debian drive and test the quick install in the morning during free time
[17:15:36] <Guido_> that did kill pip... (oups...)
[17:15:46] <JT-Shop> Guido_: if you see any mistakes on my web pages let me know
[17:16:09] <JT-Shop> I had the same issue on linux mint 18, I updated pip and it broke
[17:16:24] <Guido_> will do - best through the forum I guess
[17:16:48] <JT-Shop> here is best for me, I can always read back
[17:17:01] <Guido_> oh - ok happy to
[17:17:29] * JT-Shop goes to make evening chicken treats :)
[17:17:43] <Guido_> now... any ideas on fixing poor pip;) ? (apt-get remove pip and apt-get install pip did not work)
[17:20:36] <hazzy-m> Uh oh
[17:21:14] <hazzy-m> You can manually delete it from .local/share/python
[17:21:24] <hazzy-m> Sek, I'm on mobile
[17:23:16] <hazzy-m> it should be located in $HOME/.local/lib/python2.7/site-packages
[17:23:50] <hazzy-m> if this is a fresh system you can just delet the site-packages dir to get a fresh start with pip
[17:24:01] <Guido_> thx - will try
[17:24:56] <hazzy-m> hmm, updating breaks pip here to ..
[17:24:59] <hazzy-m> that is not good
[17:25:39] <hazzy-m> you will also need to delete the pip file from .local/bin
[17:26:27] <Guido_> while it is bad news, i'm sort of glad I'm not alone with that mess;)
[17:28:37] <Guido_> well at least pip now starts again;) (won't deal with vtk though)
[17:31:52] <JT[m]1> on this debian 9 pc pip list returns vtk (8.1.2)
[17:33:12] <Guido_> which debian version? similar to the one above?
[17:34:37] <JT[m]1> debian 9
[17:36:07] <JT[m]1> hmm I thought /etc/issue had the funny names they give each version but not so
[17:37:18] <Guido_> just to make sure: we are talking python 2.7 - right?
[17:37:56] <JT[m]1> aye, LinuxCNC is stuck at python 2.7
[17:39:24] <Guido_> I just found this list: https://packages.debian.org - odd: no entry for stretch
[17:40:02] <JT[m]1> I'm pretty sure I just did pip install vtk as it shows up when I do pip list
[17:40:39] <Guido_> there is vtk6 though - bit I guess you are using 8?
[17:41:45] <JT[m]1> I will build a new debian 9 drive in the morning during free time, I'm on satellite so limited band width during the day time
[17:42:04] <JT[m]1> yea pip list ruturns vtk 8.1.2
[17:42:42] <JT[m]1> I need to add getting vtk to the docs as we have it working now
[17:43:08] <Guido_> thanks a lot - i'll go off then (it's almost 11 pm here). That we great - I'm looking forward to that!
[17:46:00] <JT[m]1> ok goodnight
[17:46:13] <Guido_> I just found one more thing: Using "pip search *vtk*" I do find vtk (8.1.2) - can't install it though
[17:47:11] <Guido_> same to you
[18:00:35] -!- Guido_ has quit [Quit: Page closed]
[19:41:36] -!- pcw_home has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[21:29:22] <Lcvette> What's crackin?
[21:29:59] <hazzy-m> not much, my laptop just won't stay on :(
[21:30:38] * hazzy-m just got back from supper at his sister's place
[21:30:55] <Lcvette> Oh o, busted puter?
[21:31:01] <Lcvette> Yummy
[21:31:11] <Lcvette> What did we have?
[21:32:20] <hazzy-m> home made corned beef and cabage, it was fantabulous!
[21:32:36] <Lcvette> I hate you!
[21:32:44] <hazzy-m> LOL

[21:33:20] <hazzy-m> that sounds good!
[21:33:30] <Lcvette> Twas not home made corned beef and cabbage
[21:33:42] <hazzy-m> be a great second course after the corned beef
[21:33:51] <Lcvette> Lol
[21:34:11] <Lcvette> Now lcvette is hungry again

[21:34:52] <Lcvette> I need more meatses
[21:43:20] <Lcvette> What's Wong with your laptop?
[23:07:35] <hazzy-m> I thought the PSU might be going bad, I hunted down and tried a few others, same problem, just shuts down when I start any heavy program up
[23:08:00] <hazzy-m> finaly decided to just take the battery out and it seems to be working much better lol
[23:08:15] <hazzy-m> maybe the battery has a short in it?
