[05:27:04] <TurBoss> hello
[05:27:51] <TurBoss> I compiled rtai for strecth but getting a ton of latency
[05:28:17] <TurBoss> lsmod show the rtai modules
[05:28:41] <TurBoss> I followed this
[05:28:42] <TurBoss> https://sites.google.com
[05:28:49] <TurBoss> used gcc-5
[05:32:28] <TurBoss> any ideas? I'm usinf the strech linuxcnc iso
[05:32:36] <TurBoss> using*
[05:32:48] <TurBoss> i386 computer
[05:43:14] <rmu|w> what is a ton of latency
[05:43:46] <TurBoss> rmu|w: the latency test gives like 1 million ns
[05:44:23] <TurBoss> the linuxcnc one
[05:44:52] <rmu|w> a millisecond... are you sure that is the latency and not the cycle time?
[05:44:52] <TurBoss> I'm just experimenting
[05:45:01] <TurBoss> sek
[05:45:34] <rmu|w> that would be kind of excessive even for non-realtime-kernel
[05:46:43] <TurBoss> servo thread max jitter 3000000
[05:46:47] <TurBoss> this machinw with wheezy gives 3000 ns max jitter
[05:46:55] <TurBoss> wheezy and rta
[05:46:57] <TurBoss> *rtai
[05:47:25] <TurBoss> current setup is stretch linuxcnc iso + linux 4.9.80 + rtai 5.1
[05:47:49] <TurBoss> I'm doing something very wrong :D
[05:51:56] <rmu|w> perhaps your linuxcnc build didn't recognize your RTAI installation and built without realtime support?
[05:52:14] <TurBoss> hmmmmmm
[05:52:18] <TurBoss> very posible
[05:52:41] <TurBoss> omg I'm using prebuilt linuxcnc
[05:53:01] <TurBoss> I need to compile it with the new kernel? sounds like yes
[05:56:39] <TurBoss> ok I'm idiot then :D
[05:56:47] <TurBoss> --with-realtime=/usr/realtime-$VERSION
[05:56:59] <TurBoss> thanks rmu|w
[05:58:55] <rmu|w> been there, done that ;-) yw

[08:28:50] <jepler> the setting for moderators is "all new posts" but it can be set to "no" or "unapproved posts".

[14:09:41] <TurBoss> after compilin all linux, rtai, linuxcnc with gcc5
[14:09:50] <TurBoss> i get this errot

[14:14:06] <andypugh> Can you try a sample config?
[14:14:21] <TurBoss> yes
[14:14:28] <andypugh> Might need a reboot if RTAI is stuck
[14:14:29] <TurBoss> sim axis?
[14:14:36] <andypugh> Yes, that should do.

[14:26:26] <TurBoss> doesn't show the rtai because i dint added
[14:26:36] <TurBoss> is needed ?
[14:26:45] <TurBoss> in the name I mean
[14:27:09] <andypugh> Well, it’s hard to tell if you are running an RTAI or preempt-rt kernel
[14:27:30] <andypugh> If the kernel name is the same
[14:27:31] <TurBoss> i patched linux with rtai
[14:27:50] <TurBoss> installed that one the rtai modules
[14:28:20] <andypugh> I am probably not the guy best positioned to help you
[14:28:21] <TurBoss> ya true

[16:36:25] <Jin^eLD> hmm, I have a weird error in pyvcp, it says: Error constructing checkbutton({'text': 'stopped', 'halpin': 'spindle-and-motion-stopped', 'initval': 0}): Invalid pin name length: max = 47 characters
[16:36:37] <Jin^eLD> but "spindle-and-motion-stopped" is less than 47 characters
[16:36:47] <Jin^eLD> what is it complaining about?
[16:36:50] <seb_kuzminsky> plus the name of the comp that makes the pin
[16:37:06] <Jin^eLD> aah, got it
[16:37:11] <Jin^eLD> thanks
[16:37:39] <seb_kuzminsky> but even 'pyvcp.spindle-and-motion-stopped' is less than 47, hmm
[16:37:56] <Jin^eLD> well my name is indeed longer
[16:38:01] <seb_kuzminsky> aha
[16:38:06] <Jin^eLD> not using pyvcp.
[16:38:07] <seb_kuzminsky> GUILTY
[16:38:17] <Jin^eLD> so I guess the message is correct :)
[16:38:18] <Jin^eLD> hehe
[16:38:28] <seb_kuzminsky> it's nice when things work as intended :-)
[16:38:44] <Jin^eLD> the message is a bit misleading though ;)
[16:39:17] <seb_kuzminsky> "patches gratefully accepted", as they say ;-)
[16:40:31] <Jin^eLD> fair enough :)

[17:24:13] <Jin^eLD> hmm, a vbox does not have a boxfill thingie like an hbox?
[17:24:36] <Jin^eLD> what's the best way to fill something vertically?
[17:25:35] <Jin^eLD> I am not happy with the right part: https://snag.gy
[17:26:04] <Jin^eLD> an hbox separates each labelframe to the left and to the right, but how do I tell the components in the right frame to stay on top?
[17:28:11] <seb_kuzminsky> <boxfill="y">?
[17:28:27] <Jin^eLD> doc says those fills work only in an hbox?
[17:28:50] <seb_kuzminsky> there's a copy/paste error in the pyvcp docs, i think
[17:28:54] <seb_kuzminsky> http://linuxcnc.org
[17:30:21] <Jin^eLD> ok let me try if those fill tags also work inside a vbox...
[17:30:56] <Jin^eLD> Error constructing vbox({'bd': 5, 'boxfill': u'y', 'relief': 'flat'}):
[17:31:04] <Jin^eLD> it does not like boxfill
[17:31:52] <Jin^eLD> <hbox boxfill="y"/> does not work either
[17:32:25] <Jin^eLD> ah, its <boxfill fill=
[17:34:42] <seb_kuzminsky> urgh, the docs are all kinds of wrong :-/
[17:35:05] <Jin^eLD> :)
[17:35:46] <Jin^eLD> that probably explains why I can not reach the desired effect...
[17:40:36] <JT-Shop> pyvcp docs?
[17:41:35] <Jin^eLD> ..they were quite helpful, apart from a few suposed glitches :)
[17:41:39] <Jin^eLD> *supposed
[17:44:10] <seb_kuzminsky> JT-Shop: yeah, we're looking at the hbox and vbox docs
[17:44:20] <JT-Shop> me too
[17:44:37] <seb_kuzminsky> inside the vbox section it says:
[17:44:42] <JT-Shop> vbox says By default, fill="x"
[17:44:54] <JT-Shop> and I assume it should be "y"
[17:45:05] <seb_kuzminsky> "Inside a Hbox, you can use..."
[17:46:07] <seb_kuzminsky> looking at lib/python/pyvcp_widgets.py, i see that default vbox fill is x, side is top, anchor is center, and expand is yes
[17:46:26] <seb_kuzminsky> for so the defaults in the docs are right
[17:46:33] <JT-Shop> ok
[17:46:45] <JT-Shop> just looking up Tk Pack
[17:46:52] <seb_kuzminsky> for hbox it's: fill=y, side=left, anchor=center, and expand=yes
[17:47:12] <seb_kuzminsky> so the defaults in the docs are correct for hbox too
[17:47:23] <JT-Shop> https://www.astro.princeton.edu
[17:47:39] <seb_kuzminsky> ok i take it back, it's not "all kinds of wrong", it's just that one copy/paste error where it talks about hbox in the vbox section
[17:47:55] <seb_kuzminsky> so it's really me that's all kinds of wrong
[17:47:57] <JT-Shop> but no explanation what x and y is and that you have 4 options for fill
[17:48:07] <Jin^eLD> but then.. where do I add those fills exactly? I tried several variants but somehow could not reach the effect I wanted
[17:48:08] <JT-Shop> I'll fix that in the morning
[17:48:13] <Jin^eLD> https://github.com thats my XML
[17:48:55] <Jin^eLD> JT-Shop: once you get to it, maybe you could also quickly fix the closing tags in the 6.5 LEDs section
[17:49:14] <Jin^eLD> it says <height>n<height> instead of </height>
[17:49:15] <JT-Shop> np
[17:49:30] <Jin^eLD> and a couple of more there, they are all in the same example/explanation part
[17:49:36] <JT-Shop> just sent myself a note
[17:49:42] <Jin^eLD> thanks
[17:49:59] <JT-Shop> wow 329 lines of pyvcp!
[17:50:25] * JT-Shop grabs his beer and heads down to the chicken yard
[17:50:32] <Jin^eLD> I should have used more attributes
[17:50:40] <Jin^eLD> XML is bloaty otherwise
