[07:01:28] -linuxcnc-github:#linuxcnc-devel- [13linuxcnc] 15jethornton pushed 1 new commit to 06master: 02https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/commit/d3d942f1f32e66a5412d0e15752c12da9fc98511
[07:01:28] -linuxcnc-github:#linuxcnc-devel- 13linuxcnc/06master 14d3d942f 15John Thornton: Docs: fix typo...
[07:17:08] <jthornton> in the linuxcnc.org/dists what is trusty?
[07:28:04] -!- selroc has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[07:45:43] <jthornton> never mind make docs is stuck in a circular error saying I don't have pango and cairo but apt-get install says I have the latest one

[10:42:59] <mozmck> jthornton: trusty is ubuntu 14.04
[11:06:49] <seb_kuzminsky> robustra: consider using the "linuxcnc" python module instead of linuxcncrsh, it's much easier to use
[11:26:23] <mozmck> seb_kuzminsky: I think he is making a remote gui
[11:36:10] <seb_kuzminsky> ah, in that case linuxcncrsh is a better option than the python module :-/
[11:37:34] <jthornton> mozmck: thanks
[11:40:04] -!- Roguish has joined #linuxcnc-devel
[11:59:27] <seb_kuzminsky> jepler: you played with occmodel a while back, right? how did you like it?
[11:59:34] <seb_kuzminsky> or was it pythonocc?
[12:20:10] <seb_kuzminsky> i'm finding openscad pretty usable. I like that i can diff the source code for my models, but the language is a little limited and awkward, and the viewer seems a little glitchy
[12:20:55] <seb_kuzminsky> and i miss some features i'm used to from graphical cad software, like selecting a face to work on, or easily chamfering an entire edge
[12:25:06] <Tom_L> for 3d prints or machining?
[12:25:20] <seb_kuzminsky> for 3d printing
[12:25:39] <Tom_L> that seems to be what most use for that i think
[12:26:16] <seb_kuzminsky> i've been doing all my modeling in freecad and solvespace up until a few days ago, but my first experience with openscad was quite positive
[12:26:43] <Tom_L> i'm not that wild about it but that's me
[12:27:06] <seb_kuzminsky> i can sure see how it's not for everyone...
[12:27:32] <Tom_L> having the software, if i need a print i'll do it in catia or sw and export it to stl
[12:28:04] <Tom_L> but it's hardly worth buying a seat for 3d printing
[12:28:29] <Tom_L> will freecad export stl?
[12:29:11] <Tom_L> it must if you've been using it
[12:31:00] <seb_kuzminsky> freecad does export stl, but i've been mostly using it in 2d mode
[12:31:26] <seb_kuzminsky> exporting 2d sketches as svg, and generating g-code from the svgs for my mill
[12:36:10] <Jin^eLD> I was using freecad a lot doing 2d sketches for laser cutting, but at some point gave up on it and switched to a free OnShape account (yeah, commercial, "evil cloud" but it's really a huge difference to FreeCAD)
[12:36:54] <jepler> seb_kuzminsky: I played with at least two python wrappers of opencascade.
[12:37:08] -!- Tom_shop has joined #linuxcnc-devel
[12:37:08] <jepler> seb_kuzminsky: I feel that opencascade is easy to anger and hard to appease
[12:37:16] <jepler> seb_kuzminsky: so in the end I went back to openscad
[12:38:15] <jepler> seb_kuzminsky: https://emergent.unpythonic.net
[12:38:46] <jepler> and also https://emergent.unpythonic.net
[12:45:56] <seb_kuzminsky> cool
[12:46:15] <seb_kuzminsky> and it's funny to me you show off the filleting :-)
