[05:58:25] <XXCoder> I thought he was doing ok, but apparently he made mistakes again and again and hes been machinist for 30 years
[05:58:43] <XXCoder> and he inflated parts count by more than twice
[05:59:06] <XXCoder> too bad really. I know im not amazing cnc machinist but im in least honest and always learning

[06:06:04] <XXCoder> https://www.youtube.com
[06:07:52] <sync> well not really, QA will just find the bad parts later
[06:07:56] <XXCoder> honestly it seems simple enough. there is 3d printed versions thats even simpler

[11:38:43] <jepler> It's been about a week since I silenced unregistered users. I had originally stated I'd keep the ban for at least a week. How's anybody feel about removing the channel mode?

[11:40:01] -!- P1ersson has joined #linuxcnc
[11:43:24] <tjtr33> is there a way to 'slice' a gcode file?
[11:43:36] <tjtr33> I want to cut 3D_chips.ngc but all my cutters have very short side cutting ability,
[11:43:36] <tjtr33> so I'd like to cut it in vertically layered slices.
[11:44:21] <gregcnc> this is normally handled by CAM which generates the code
[11:44:35] <skunkworks> cheap and dirty would be just to run 3d chips over and over by lowering the z each time
[11:44:58] <tjtr33> yes, 3D_chips was made by very very original emc guys and the model is not available.
[11:45:05] <gregcnc> that will work
[11:46:08] <tjtr33> thanks skunk, no suggestions for turning gcode to stl?
[11:46:42] <jthornton> I still see spam in other channels that don't have ops
[11:47:10] <jepler> OK, based on feedback here and in #linuxcnc-devel I'll leave the ban in place for another week.
[11:47:38] <skunkworks> there was a newer model.. alex joni maybe had it?
[11:48:01] <tjtr33> thx , off to romania ( i think )

[14:13:38] <miss0r> 'ello
[14:14:02] <fragalot> turns out that .02mm in Z along Y that I had really is just due to the casting flexing
[14:14:24] <miss0r> Yeah... You nailed it
[14:14:27] <fragalot> goes away when I loosen the bolts to the stand
[14:14:27] <miss0r> :D
[14:14:42] <miss0r> You could probally shim that
[14:14:48] <fragalot> 'ndeed
[14:15:05] <fragalot> all that's left really is to lift that far too heavy head back onto the machine
[14:15:08] <fragalot> watch it flex even more
[14:15:13] <fragalot> and then machine new gibs myself
[14:15:36] <miss0r> Sweet
[14:16:08] <miss0r> I got my 8x40x150 and my 12x50x150 endmills in the mail today :D They are looking GOOD
[14:17:14] <fragalot> 12x50 ?
[14:17:20] <fragalot> only 50mm usable surface?
[14:17:21] <fragalot> pah
[14:17:36] <miss0r> meh...
[14:17:45] <miss0r> I don't want 120mm helix! it would be uncontrollable !
[14:17:50] <miss0r> :]
[14:18:15] <fragalot> :D
[14:20:17] <miss0r> The only thing shitty about these endmills is that I could not get them with a corner radius.
[14:21:12] <miss0r> I wonder how long the cutting end will last :D
[14:22:41] <fragalot> grind it yourself
[14:22:55] * fragalot does that all the time on his single lip cutter grinder
[14:23:19] <miss0r> Sure. But I think I'll run it into the ground first, before starting on that :D
[14:23:43] <fragalot> just break the very tips on a tool grinder
[14:23:57] <fragalot> makes a huge difference in terms of life, especially when they're this long
[14:24:13] <miss0r> then my TIALN coating will go bye bye :P
[14:24:24] <miss0r> yeah I know.. I just want to see how they perform first
[14:25:49] <fragalot> you don't have the RPM's to make use of TiALN
[14:25:54] <fragalot> :P

[18:30:40] <SpeedEvil> Well, torque of standard drawbar, thread pull calculator, thread, ...
[18:31:34] <roycroft> i'm taking about the kind that just pushes down on the drawbar, which is held with belleville washers
[18:31:34] <roycroft> not the ratcheting kind that actually unscrew the drawbar
[18:31:35] <roycroft> also, about 100% of the ones i've seen put on small mills just push down on the spindle to release the collet
[18:31:36] <roycroft> that seems as though it would put a lot of excessive load on the spindle bearings
[18:31:38] <roycroft> a mechanism that holds the spindle in place while pushing down on the drawbar makes more sense to me, although that would be a lto more complicated
[18:32:12] <roycroft> yes, i can calculate something sensible
[18:32:19] <roycroft> i just want a ballpark number for now
[18:32:38] <roycroft> and i figure linuxcnc'ers probably have better number than youtube warriers
[18:34:51] <infornography> lurk
[18:35:02] <roycroft> hmm, if the lower mounting plate for the pneumatic cylinder were attached to the spindle and not to the top of the mill that would eliminate any load on the spindle bearings
[18:37:02] <SpeedEvil> K - I have no experience as you can probably gather. :)

[18:50:39] <infornography> is there open source software for drawing and generating G code from the drawing?
[18:51:29] <Rab> infornography, Inkscape + gcodetools fits that description.
[18:52:13] <infornography> *makes note
