[06:12:34] <jthornton> hey
[06:12:35] <XXCoder> tomorrow is going to be nightmare
[06:12:50] <XXCoder> 90f but humidity at high level, AND high smoke levels
[06:12:56] <jthornton> 70% chance of T storms today
[06:13:17] <jthornton> 73F 100% here
[06:13:26] <XXCoder> ow
[06:13:33] <jthornton> wow our high is only 80F today
[06:13:50] <XXCoder> 90f 90%, and smoke
[06:13:56] <XXCoder> smoke here is so bad its like fog
[06:13:58] <XXCoder> but its not
[06:14:09] <jthornton> smoke from forest fires?
[06:14:18] <XXCoder> yeah
[06:14:25] <XXCoder> it already stopped I think
[06:14:34] <XXCoder> but smoke dont just disappear like in game or something lol
[06:15:47] <jthornton> installing debian 9 again this morning, I finally figured out the linuxcnc repos lol
[06:17:10] <XXCoder> yay :)
[06:17:32] <XXCoder> ugh monday will be hot hell so far. I hope they correct it down to 80s
[06:19:52] <jthornton> I started building cat bypass pipes for the Can Am Spyder Friday, I need to make 25 or so quick
[06:20:33] <jthornton> http://spyderstore.com
[06:20:58] <XXCoder> isnt those less than legal
[06:22:22] <jthornton> I think that depends on the state, most motorcycles don't have them
[06:22:43] <XXCoder> interesting. I was thinking cars lol
[06:22:52] <XXCoder> but then url should have been a hint
[06:23:10] <jthornton> http://spyderstore.com
[06:23:13] <jthornton> main page
[06:23:27] <XXCoder> ya know of that
[06:23:33] <XXCoder> just didnt read full url lol
[06:23:47] <jthornton> that's the one I have but my trailer color is a different shade of blue
[06:24:36] <XXCoder> cool :)
[06:24:40] <jthornton> trailer is 2010 and the bike is 2012
[06:24:46] <XXCoder> all I want is elio, but porobably finally get one by 2020
[06:25:25] <jthornton> how are they doing?
[06:25:49] <XXCoder> dunno, been quiet
[06:25:54] <XXCoder> just hope they dont fail.
[06:26:06] <jthornton> sounds like I've caught another coon on the deck... they just keep coming
[06:28:30] <Tom_L> are they after the eggs?

[06:28:50] -!- laurent\ has joined #linuxcnc
[06:28:59] <jthornton> no, there are never any eggs outside at night
[06:29:38] <jthornton> caught a huge one yesterday
[06:30:52] <Tom_L> we had the storm last evening. nice heavy downpour
[06:31:12] <jthornton> once a coon starts coming on your deck they keep coming back and crapping all over
[06:31:51] <Tom_L> you get any canadian geese there?
[06:31:57] <Tom_L> they're all over the place here
[06:32:30] <jthornton> we have some but they prefer the flat land
[06:33:10] <jthornton> looks like a pretty good cell of rain to the southwest of me in north west arkansas
[06:34:27] <jthornton> got some low spots in the chicken yard I'm trying to fill up, have to haul it in with a wheelbarrow
[06:36:19] <jthornton> installing debian 9 for the millionth time lol
[06:47:57] <jthornton> my neighbor has been having a problem with coons eating eggs at night
[06:50:08] <Loetmichel> coons being intelligent enough to open the coop doors?
[06:50:46] <jthornton> she is a little lax on doors but yea a coon can open some doors
[06:51:11] <jthornton> her coops are more of a free form, whatever she has is a coop
[06:51:25] <jthornton> a lot of her birds roost in the trees
[06:52:02] <Loetmichel> i imagine that being "fun" when searching the eggs anyways ;)
[06:52:58] <jthornton> yea she has to do an easter egg hunt every day lol
[06:53:47] <jthornton> http://gnipsel.com
[06:54:02] <jthornton> I see mine when they roll out lol

[07:26:23] <fragalot> Hey
[07:28:46] <jthornton> hey
[07:29:52] <XXCoder> I wonder if coons could be fooled with fake handles
[07:32:07] <fragalot> just give them cotton candy until they get depressed
[07:32:52] <XXCoder> lol
[07:36:40] <jthornton> connect 240v to the inside so when they pull the handle down they get shocked
[07:37:01] -!- beachbumpete1 has joined #linuxcnc
[07:41:45] <XXCoder> till some human walks in and get shocked also
[07:42:31] <jthornton> bet they don't do it twice
[07:43:06] <fragalot> don't forget the saline bath
[07:43:28] <fragalot> actually, liquidized sand could be fun
[07:43:43] <fragalot> put air hoses underneath a sand pit that's about 1m deep
[07:43:51] <fragalot> if the handle is touched, switch on the air for 2 seconds
[07:44:34] <jthornton> now that sounds like more fun than watching a dog touch the hot wire with his nose
[07:44:53] <fragalot> :D

[12:51:36] <dasbrow> Hello all, this newbie could use a little clarity. I would like to dump my cheap Chinese 5 axis cnc board and upgoraddowne to maybe a mesa card. It would be nice to keep the cost down. Though my biggest issue is understanding which card I need, searching the forum I see a lot of this board + that board. Is there a single board solution that still uses the parallel port?
[12:53:36] -!- JT-Shop has joined #linuxcnc
[12:54:49] <fragalot> JT-Shop: dasbrow needs ya :-)
[12:54:54] * fragalot away!
[12:55:00] -!- ktc has joined #linuxcnc
[12:57:00] <jdh> 7i43 + 1 or 2 daughterboards
[12:57:12] <jdh> so, not really

[12:58:45] -!- ktc has joined #linuxcnc
[12:59:16] <Tom_L> JT-Shop, i never shipped to Iran fwiw
[12:59:22] <dasbrow> they have the 7i43 but it's USB,
[12:59:48] <dasbrow> sorry hit enter before I as done typing.
[13:00:05] <Tom_L> dasbrow is it a stepper system?
[13:00:09] <dasbrow> yes
[13:00:16] <Tom_L> skip the 7i43
[13:00:16] -!- Dave_Elec_ has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
[13:00:22] <Tom_L> 7i90 is what you want
[13:00:27] <Tom_L> cheaper with more IO
[13:00:40] -!- ktc has quit [Client Quit]
[13:00:49] <Tom_L> and you will probalby want a daughter card for it
[13:00:56] -!- ktc has joined #linuxcnc
[13:01:25] <Tom_L> i'm not sure pcw even pushes the 7i43 anymore although it's probably still available
[13:01:31] <dasbrow> would the 7i90hd work?
[13:01:39] <Tom_L> for a parallel port?
[13:01:43] <Tom_L> absolutely
[13:02:03] <Tom_L> i've got one on my mill
[13:02:30] <jdh> why?
[13:02:31] <Tom_L> if you want ethernet the 7i80 is basically the same card with ethernet instead of parallel port input
[13:02:34] -!- ktc has quit [Client Quit]
[13:02:49] -!- ktc has joined #linuxcnc
[13:02:51] <Tom_L> jdh why what?
[13:03:04] <JT-Shop> or if you don't have a lot of i/o a 7i96
[13:03:06] <jdh> why use a pport card in 2018
[13:03:14] <JT-Shop> Tom_L: I sent him to eusurplus
[13:03:22] <Tom_L> because maybe you have an old pc that has one?
[13:03:34] <Tom_L> and it works fabulous for linuxcnc
[13:03:39] -!- ktc has quit [Client Quit]
[13:03:59] <Tom_L> why are we still using keyboards in 2018??
[13:03:59] -!- ktc has joined #linuxcnc
[13:04:04] <dasbrow> what else did you need to hook it up?
[13:04:15] <dasbrow> daughter card wise
[13:04:24] <Tom_L> i added a 7i47s card on mine but there are several that will work fine
[13:04:38] -!- ktc has quit [Client Quit]
[13:04:41] <JT-Shop> a 7i96 does not need a daughter card so the whole shebang is $120
[13:04:45] <Tom_L> the "S" adds analog spindle control
[13:05:05] -!- ktc has joined #linuxcnc
[13:05:15] <Tom_L> 7i96 one of his newest cards?
[13:05:22] <Tom_L> must be...
[13:05:26] <JT-Shop> https://mesaus.com
[13:05:30] <JT-Shop> aye
[13:05:51] <JT-Shop> a bit less i/o than the 7i76e
[13:06:06] <Tom_L> dasbrow how much IO do you need?
[13:06:29] <Tom_L> JT-Shop, does it have a spindle option?
[13:06:33] <JT-Shop> so if you don't have more than 11 inputs and 5 outputs its $120 vs $200
[13:06:51] <JT-Shop> yes, you only have 4 stepgens with a pwm output
[13:06:59] <dasbrow> I currelty have 3 axis and will add a 4th down the road. spindle control would be nice since i am spending the money.
[13:07:19] <jdh> click and buy!
[13:07:31] <dasbrow> mesaus.com vs mesanet.com?
[13:07:36] <Tom_L> well i went with the 7i90 with a 7i47s card but there are more options available now
[13:07:40] <dasbrow> I am in Canada.
[13:07:49] <JT-Shop> I'm even writing a simple to understand 7i96 configuration tool
[13:07:51] <Tom_L> mesaus is a distributor
[13:07:59] <Tom_L> he knows his sheet
[13:08:01] <JT-Shop> I'm cheaper on shipping
[13:08:19] <Tom_L> and he may even be here if you look around
[13:08:30] -!- ktchk2 has joined #linuxcnc
[13:08:48] <jdh> both of them
[13:09:04] <Tom_L>  /s/he/they
[13:09:25] <JT-Shop> maybe more than once too
[13:09:47] <Tom_L> aparently it rained here this am too..
[13:10:01] <Tom_L> i was hiding so i didn't notice
[13:10:48] <dasbrow> do I need a daughter board for the 7I96e?
[13:10:56] <JT-Shop> we just got a shower
[13:11:05] <Tom_L> dasbrow aparently not
[13:11:15] <JT-Shop> dasbrow: it's a 7i96 and no you don't need anything else
[13:11:16] <Tom_L> but make sure it's got enough IO for you
[13:11:33] <Tom_L> JT-Shop, does it have output for sserial?
[13:11:40] <Tom_L> differential pair
[13:11:45] <JT-Shop> yes so you can add i/o down the line
[13:12:26] <Tom_L> next issue is whether his PC will be fast enough to run preempt-rt
[13:12:39] <Tom_L> since it's an ethernet card
[13:12:59] <dasbrow> You were not joking when you said your shipping is cheaper. I could buy 2 boards for the price of their shipping.
[13:13:25] <JT-Shop> I only allow first class to countries that report back tracking
[13:13:36] <JT-Shop> canada is one that does
[13:13:56] -!- hazzy-lab1 has joined #linuxcnc

[13:14:31] <JT-Shop> the configuration tool
[13:14:32] <Tom_L> the 7i96 would probably do fine for you

[13:15:51] <dasbrow> Down the road if I need more i/o I can just add something like the 7i69?
[13:16:06] <Tom_L> add a sserial card for extended IO
[13:16:22] <Tom_L> not sure what the 7i69 is off hand
[13:16:41] <dasbrow> https://mesaus.com
[13:17:18] <hazzy-lab> JT-Shop: Hey JT!
[13:17:29] <Tom_L> generally ppl put switches, buttons, pendants and other non time-critical functions on the sserial
[13:17:47] <dasbrow> I have a usb pendant.
[13:18:40] <Tom_L> you won't be using USB with linuxcnc unless somebody has a USB pendant already
