[06:11:00] <Tom_L> morning
[06:11:34] <Tom_L> 55°F Hi 66
[06:11:56] <jthornton> morning
[06:13:45] <jthornton> a bit more swing here 50°F - 76°F
[06:19:04] <XXCoder> today was expecially hot
[06:19:05] -!- nssy has joined #linuxcnc
[06:19:05] <XXCoder> 70f
[06:23:27] -!- nssy has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[06:28:47] <jthornton> how hot was it inside the shop?
[06:30:26] <XXCoder> 72f?
[06:30:45] <XXCoder> its always slightly warmer than 70f year around besides summer
[06:31:03] <XXCoder> QA room is always 65f year around. poor 2nd shift QA guy
[06:31:10] <XXCoder> hes always wearing warm clothes year around
[06:31:46] <XXCoder> 65f is still warm to me, shorts temperate so I never wear warmer clothes at work year around (beides pants in cooler seasons)
[06:35:27] <jthornton> I get to play with the new to me wood lathe today after I assemble it
[06:35:40] <XXCoder> thats awesome :D
[06:36:06] <XXCoder> wanted to play with one but didnt want to buy one just for that. I still have that $45 one I need room to put that in before I can try it
[06:36:21] <jthornton> it came with a butt load of tools and some nice ones
[06:37:25] <jthornton> https://fayar.craigslist.org
[06:37:42] <jthornton> I'm surprised the ad is still up
[06:38:47] <XXCoder> wow what a big collection
[06:38:56] <XXCoder> so whjats your plan?
[06:39:00] <jthornton> yea it's a bunch of tools
[06:40:00] <jthornton> well I'm working on some fiberglass molds at my neighbors house on his shop smith but it's pretty crappy and I have to wait for him to be home so now I'll shift that over to my shop
[06:40:37] <XXCoder> no no what I meant is what you planning to make on it
[06:41:15] <jthornton> fiberglass mold for air cleaner cover
[06:41:22] <jthornton> making them out of wood
[06:41:45] <XXCoder> oh! thought you was saying you got sidelined into making molds before can make something on lathe lol
[06:41:55] <XXCoder> cool :)
[06:43:32] <jthornton> my neighbor has a shop smith which is a do all wood working machine
[06:44:24] <jthornton> but it's pretty light so it vibrates a lot
[06:46:17] <jthornton> I need to get some wheels under it so it's mobile
[06:47:09] <XXCoder> and add some heavy metal
[06:48:45] <jthornton> reading online and some folks add a sand ballast box to each leg... I could use chips lol
[06:48:52] <jthornton> metal chips that is
[06:50:37] <XXCoder> could work
[06:50:44] <XXCoder> loose material would eat vibrations hard
[06:50:48] <XXCoder> convert em to heat
[06:58:25] <jthornton> still trying to figure out what the scroll thing is in photo #2 lower left corner
[06:58:49] <XXCoder> the disc?
[06:58:56] <jthornton> aye
[06:59:04] <XXCoder> yeah lathe guys at work has em
[06:59:14] <XXCoder> got something to do with finding center?
[06:59:18] -!- P1ersson has joined #linuxcnc
[07:00:01] <XXCoder> or maybe its to odd shaped part
[07:01:55] <XXCoder> im not too familiar with lathe unfortunately
[07:02:10] <XXCoder> in pretty close to 4 years, I ran lathe only 7 times
[07:02:16] <jthornton> https://www.woodturnerscatalog.com
[07:02:21] <XXCoder> and it was very little more than operator
[07:02:41] <XXCoder> nice
[07:02:51] <jthornton> looks like some kind of bowl chuck to finish the bottom
[07:03:01] <XXCoder> or large but shallow something yeah
[07:03:07] <XXCoder> like pot lid
[07:06:22] * jthornton gets back to the python3 time puzzle
[07:07:24] <XXCoder> fun
[07:08:32] <jthornton> yea I finally fingered out that for comparisons I need to convert to seconds from epoch due to some formats being tz aware and some not

[15:09:08] <cradek> what is it?
[15:09:22] <rob_h> cant rember of top of my head
[15:09:30] <cradek> welp
[15:09:36] <rob_h> when u use negative numbers for the nominal postion

[15:14:07] <rob_h> error is . join4 : compensation values must increase
[15:14:33] <rob_h> well i wanted to make an error map for my indexer for the tilt angles.. does - and + tilts..
[15:14:44] -!- mulvane12 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[15:15:47] <rob_h> plus if you had a axis come switch mid slide. you then have + and - travels for comp as comp 0.00 is from machine home zero ?
[15:16:39] <cradek> rob_h: I think you are misreading the error. It says they must increase, not that they must be positive
[15:16:49] <cradek> so you probably just have them out of order
[15:17:04] <cradek> pastebin your comp file?
[15:17:57] <rob_h> https://pastebin.com
[15:18:24] <rob_h> cradek, looks like you are correct
[15:18:34] <rob_h> making - values the start no error now

[15:20:25] <cradek> which is kinda funny :-)
[15:21:08] <cradek> http://www.linuxcnc.org
[15:21:10] <rob_h> guess i can get back to working out all my error points to map
[15:21:23] <cradek> this is the only documentation I found for comp files, and it sure doesn't mention that requirement
[15:23:07] <rob_h> i even tried to look for a comp example as i guess when that cini 5axis was done they used screw comp files

[18:12:25] <andypugh> Wow! My aunt and uncle sold their house a couple of years ago (for a fair bit of cash). I always thought that there was a lovely old house underneath, but it’s back on the market after basically a good clean and redeocoration: https://www.rightmove.co.uk
[18:13:29] <andypugh> It’s strangely familar, but at the same time, not.
[18:14:09] <andypugh> Though I can tell that, for some odd reason, they have mirrored the image of the Butler’s Pantry.
[18:19:52] <cradek> ugh I knew I'd find a grotesque white "modern" kitchen
[18:20:09] <cradek> even for like a million dollars you can't avoid that

[19:02:11] <andypugh> Which picture? The rooms are pretty big. 12’ ceilings
[19:02:42] <XXCoder> to me height isnt really important :)

[22:33:45] <laminae__> Hey guys, a friend of mine is parting ways from some stages he removed from machines he upgraded and he suggested 1500 for the lot which seems like a killer deal to me but i'm having a hard time finding details on the parts
[22:33:50] <laminae__> https://media.discordapp.net
[22:34:17] <laminae__> That's a pic of the items and the details are: 1) 106041S_10AELH -magnetic limit/home switches -this one has some pretty significant backlash, but might be repairable if it's just a loose screw or somethign. 2) 106041C_10E -optical switches -motor: Compumotor S57-83-MO 3) 106041C -optical switches -motor: DB57-51 4) 406101S -broken switches, optical -motor: DB57-51 5) 506
[22:34:27] <XXCoder> laminae__: might be fully encoded and everything
[22:34:40] <XXCoder> looks like kit for a great mill or router machine
[22:34:45] <laminae__> They are all legit parker parts too
[22:35:00] <laminae__> they were all used in 3d printers
[22:35:08] <laminae__> Industrial optical stuff
[22:35:40] <laminae__> He wanted to build a mill and i was trying to help him go down that path but decided he would rather buy one already made
[22:35:54] <laminae__> Am i right in thinking 1500 bucks is crazy cheap for this?
[22:37:12] <laminae__> I've been trying to look up specs for the parts but i can't find a discontinued catalog which is what i need
[22:37:47] <XXCoder> i dont know in prices though
[22:38:04] <XXCoder> no part #s on it?
[22:38:30] <laminae__> That post with the parenthesis is the part numbers
[22:38:39] <laminae__> Just don't have any way to look them up
[22:39:09] <laminae__> from left to right in the image
[22:43:11] <laminae__> I'm going to swing by his place to look at them in person next week but i gott say, i'm already really liking what i am seeing
[22:43:40] <XXCoder> yeah need lot more research tho
[22:43:52] <XXCoder> you dont qnna buy em and find out can buy em for 100 bucks for example
[22:44:04] <XXCoder> pretty lot seems to be problemic or broken
[22:46:04] <laminae__> i've been able to find more recent versions of the last two, which are several thousand, doesn't necessarily mean these are equivalent, my biggest concern on the switches, is if i can replace them easily i don't mind that so much
[22:48:05] <laminae__> Any suggestions on places to look for more information or specs?
[22:52:35] <Rab> laminae__, Parker's still around and have a lot of specs online. Google searching full or partial part numbers tends to turn up documentation, I've found.
[22:54:43] <Rab> Not sure about the price. Most of those stages look to have so little travel as to be useless, even for a Z stage. The three long ones are worth something if they're in serviceable condition. The motors are definitely sized for optical duty, might need an upgrade for milling applications.
[22:55:35] <laminae__> Thanks rab, i've found partial numbers, but the results certainly aren't what i have in hand
[22:56:04] <Rab> $1500 is eBay prices. My advice would be to never pay eBay prices except for hardware in good condition that's exactly what you want, and fits your game plan to use it. Don't pay a bunch of money for stages without an obvious application for you.
[22:56:06] <laminae__> The three large ones are definitely me area of interest
[22:56:15] <laminae__> One of them has damaged switches
[22:56:39] <Rab> Ehh, my feeling is that switches are something that can be improvised.
[22:57:14] <laminae__> My specific intention is a mill for soft metals and full flood cutting so i can safely cut cf and g10
[22:57:41] <laminae__> Perhaps the option of cutting other metals *might* interest me at some point
[22:57:56] <Rab> But if the switches are missing or damaged, that can indicate other problems. Like if end stops are missing and the bearings have exceeded their travel, bearing balls can fall out for example.
[22:58:05] <laminae__> But i work almost exclusively on uas applications and cnc manufacturing machines
[22:58:32] <laminae__> Well the good news on that, two of those stages were pulled out of perfectly functional machines
[22:58:39] <Rab> Sounds like you have experience with these types of components.

[22:59:28] <Rab> Remember that the Parker stages are usually modular, with one family covering a wide range of configurations. So that may explain part number incoherence.
[23:00:24] <laminae__> I've fiddled with some thk actuator but these are a world above my typical level of quality
[23:01:00] <laminae__> I'm headed over to his house next week to look at them closer but i'd like to be more informed before i make a decision
[23:01:03] <Rab> Bearings and screws are pretty decent sized, if that naked stage is representative.
