[06:13:11] <Tom_L> morning
[06:13:31] <XXCoder> hey
[06:19:09] -!- unterhausen has joined #linuxcnc
[06:35:07] <jthornton> morning
[06:35:40] <XXCoder> hey jthornton
[06:35:49] <XXCoder> today I kinda rocked lol
[06:36:06] <jthornton> cool, I over slept this morning
[06:36:13] <XXCoder> I used bad part to setup and find X and Y
[06:36:24] <XXCoder> it looked good so I ran good part.
[06:36:42] <XXCoder> oops seems it messed with xy enough to scrap parts (one bar makes 5 parts)
[06:36:50] <XXCoder> chamfer was pretty off badly
[06:37:10] <XXCoder> so I got a red tag (required) but while walking back to machine I think hmm
[06:37:24] <XXCoder> thickness tol is whole .01" +-
[06:37:44] <XXCoder> so I figure I use good part to find X Y again, but I also lower Z by .005"
[06:37:49] <XXCoder> boom, good part
[06:37:55] <jthornton> that's a huge tolerance
[06:38:07] -!- P1ersson has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
[06:38:24] <XXCoder> whats funny is that face thickness is 0.032". so range is .022" to .042"
[06:38:56] <XXCoder> its pretty tiny part little more than tube with flat round face on it
[06:39:21] <XXCoder> shh dont tell that to terrorists lol (limition on boeing secret design :P )
[06:39:56] <jthornton> my 12v gear motor finally came in so now I can get started building the new chicken pop door
[06:40:12] <XXCoder> awesome :)
[06:40:28] <XXCoder> now add touch screen to control door while youre there :)
[06:40:31] <XXCoder> ;)
[06:40:55] <jthornton> I have a manual override switch for the door
[06:41:12] <jthornton> I want to use a better track system for the door this time
[06:41:28] -!- HASSNOUNI has joined #linuxcnc
[06:41:33] <XXCoder> door position tracking, or literal tracks
[06:41:44] <jthornton> tracks for the door
[06:41:52] <XXCoder> cool
[06:42:16] <jthornton> old one used a couple of 20/20 bars but too much slop for the magnetic switches
[06:42:17] -!- HASSNOUNI has quit [Client Quit]
[06:42:34] <XXCoder> if you melt your own HDPE from milk cartons by boiling oil, you could make self-lubcating bushings or whatever
[06:42:51] <jthornton> na, that's too much work lol
[06:42:57] <XXCoder> because even if you press it into shape, there is countless micro oil spots
[06:43:30] <XXCoder> lol
[06:45:02] <jthornton> I think I have some drawer slides somewhere around here but first I need to make the spool for the motor and the mount for it
[06:46:02] <XXCoder> wont it get rusty?
[06:46:33] <jthornton> the door is on the inside wall so no
[06:47:10] <XXCoder> not bad
[06:47:15] <jthornton> I wonder if this pc not waking up is the monitor?
[06:47:41] <XXCoder> it may be having trouble turning on lights
[06:47:47] <XXCoder> try montior on something else
[06:49:54] <jthornton> yea I have one that is a bit smaller I can swap with
[06:50:49] <XXCoder> try this also, when it refuses to wake up, shine a strong flashlight right up on screen
[06:51:10] <XXCoder> flashlight touching screen, you should be able to see whatever its displaying without light
[06:51:19] <XXCoder> if you can, its on,, just not turning lights on
[06:51:33] <jthornton> ah ok I have my egg candle light I can use that
[06:51:48] <XXCoder> I had montior die on me, I had to use flashlight to turn off my computer lol
[06:52:05] <XXCoder> move mouse, find it using flashlight, repeat
[06:52:55] <jthornton> the power light on the monitor blinks slowly maybe that's a clue
[06:53:30] <XXCoder> maybe google <model #> light blink slowly
[06:55:09] <jthornton> and this is the only monitor I have with a HDMI plug that I can use on the Raspberry Pi
[06:55:22] <Loetmichel> jthornton: that usually means its in "poer save" mode
[06:55:29] <Loetmichel> +w
[06:56:12] <Loetmichel> try plugging the HDMIm cable out and back in while both pi and monitor are running
[06:56:36] <Loetmichel> is there a display for a moment that says "no signal on port [x] going to sleep"?
[06:57:51] <jthornton> I rarely have the pi plugged in only when I can't ssh into one

[07:31:20] <XXCoder> man I love my pebble watch
[07:31:36] <XXCoder> after a week its still at 60% charge
[07:31:51] <XXCoder> plenty of battery life. I didnt want daily charge watch
[07:33:20] <Loetmichel> hmmm
[07:35:47] <Loetmichel> i like my casio A164W for that reason... every 2-3 years battery change and its pretty sturdy. Gets expensive to get them lately, i tend to destroy one every 10 years or so... .- -> http://www.cyrom.org
[07:37:14] <Loetmichel> <- doesent need a smartwatch
[07:37:17] <XXCoder> lol yea my watch is much shorter in comparasion, but its rechargable and it gets notification from pohone so on
[07:37:22] <Loetmichel> i have a smartphone ;)
[07:37:25] <XXCoder> damn can pebble watch vibrate
[07:37:32] <XXCoder> I cant feel anything from phone.
[07:37:54] * Loetmichel has his phone on a belt clip and can feel it vibrate
[07:38:00] <XXCoder> I cant
[07:38:08] * jthornton never wears a watch and doesn't carry a phone
[07:38:18] <Loetmichel> http://www.cyrom.org
[07:38:21] <XXCoder> timeless classic eh
[07:38:51] <Loetmichel> the fact that the clip is made of metal may have to do something with it though
[07:39:06] <XXCoder> maybe lol
[07:40:34] <XXCoder> funny thing is I bought pebble AFTER pebble company went under
[07:40:52] <XXCoder> thankfully group of people created Rebble, a replacement server and app download site
[07:40:57] <XXCoder> so my watch still works
[07:41:05] -!- P1ersson has joined #linuxcnc
[07:45:42] <jthornton> opps I went out to check the chickens a bit early the door doesn't open for 6 more minutes
[07:46:21] <XXCoder> timeless experence. ;)
[07:47:16] -!- Robh__ has joined #linuxcnc
[07:48:21] <jthornton> they all had a confused look like wtf are you doing out here the lights not on yet
[07:52:43] -!- Simonious has joined #linuxcnc
[07:56:01] <jthornton> what does a pebble/rebble do?
[07:57:17] <XXCoder> its a smart watch basically. gets notifications from phone, as well as can do some stuff by itself. for example theres this amazing compass app where it shows compass in normal mode, and side view (points where directions are) when vertical
[07:57:31] <XXCoder> can change clock faces, mine is basic one with weather on it.
[07:58:05] <XXCoder> if I twist my arm and return quickly, it shows 3 day weather briefly. because why not lol
[07:58:17] <jthornton> lol
[08:02:20] <XXCoder> anyway I bought it for 22 bucks, turned out charger dont work, got $5 refund and bought one for bit less
[08:02:37] <XXCoder> then turns out there was screen minor burn-in, asked about it and got anither $5
[08:02:46] <XXCoder> so its pretty cheap at end
[08:03:09] <jthornton> no wonder they went under lol
[08:03:16] <XXCoder> no, from ebay
[08:03:36] <XXCoder> it was used one
[08:04:02] <jthornton> ah ok
[08:04:04] <XXCoder> honestly they went under due to severial factors including later generations of pebble having bad buttons issues
[08:04:17] <XXCoder> mine is pebble classic, post-kickstarter so its best version
[08:04:27] <jthornton> I have one month to get my new chicken door/light code into the current coop
[08:05:00] <XXCoder> features-wise pebble 2 hr is best, but really bad 2 button issue
[08:05:32] <XXCoder> https://www.youtube.com
[08:06:34] <jthornton> so it's a OLED display watch?
[08:06:44] <XXCoder> oled uses way too much power, so no
[08:06:58] <XXCoder> its special tft that uses riciously little power to keep displaying
[08:07:19] <XXCoder> uses little bit more power to change than normal lcd but holding screem it uses so little power
[08:07:23] <jthornton> I need to see what a tft is
[08:07:34] <XXCoder> that video shows it
[08:07:39] <jthornton> I've seen that before somewhere
[08:08:30] <jthornton> https://electronics.stackexchange.com
[08:09:07] <XXCoder> yeah. what pebble uses is special tft though
[08:09:16] <XXCoder> uses something like few uA to hold display
[08:10:09] <jthornton> so this guy on the backyard chicken forum pm's me asking why his ardunio code won't work... I tell him I don't provide pm support for questions because no one else can benefit from my work answering a question
[08:11:12] <jthornton> so he starts a thread and posts his code and I reply with some example code that demonstrates how to get what he wants and he basically says I'll try it when I get a chance lol
[08:11:29] <jthornton> what a waste of my time...
[08:11:39] <XXCoder> geez lol
[08:12:18] <XXCoder> jee gonna get myself clean so I can sleep and return to work tomorrow lol
[08:12:21] <XXCoder> later for now
[08:12:33] <jthornton> night
[08:27:45] <XXCoder> back while fan drying lol
[08:28:03] <XXCoder> nearly 60% humidity in room so harder to dry

[09:17:39] -!- Robh__ has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
[09:19:17] <jthornton> some weird clock or watch thread?
[09:20:25] <gregcnc> actually quite common, and standard metric threadform and pitch is the same, but I've never read about why it exists

[14:37:37] <CaptHindsight> proces/prices
[14:38:48] <CaptHindsight> most distributors would purchase in bulk when the prices were low and then charge you the rate it is on the market for the day

[16:41:15] <laminae_> I did most of the mod this morning, you guys mind giving me some suggestions for improvement?
[16:41:47] <laminae_> Anyway, if you feel so inclined: https://imgur.com
[16:41:48] <roycroft> i'm probably not the person you want to talk to
[16:42:12] <laminae_> Well, you've been helpful so far haha
[16:42:32] <roycroft> likely most anyone else on this channel would be more knowledgeable than me
[16:42:46] <laminae_> I ran into one huge problem, i accidentally imported the metric versions into cad and i have the the bullshi--- i mean imperial versions
[16:43:02] <laminae_> So the plates i made to put the y actuator on don't fit
[16:43:28] <laminae_> Those two cbeam extrusions are just to get me in a spot to cut new plates
[16:43:51] <laminae_> The biggest thing i could use direction on is the bottom of the frame
[16:44:47] <laminae_> Is it worth it to get a solid sheet (either alum or steel) and affix the extrusions to it? is there a more cost effective option?
[16:46:47] <laminae_> Really i'm already way overkill for my original intentions which was alum and cf but if it were a significant improvement i would be willing to throw time an energy at it. I also need to get the flood enclosure in there and i've decided this time that acrylic sucks and i don't want to mess with it

[16:47:45] <laminae_> SO i'm looking at taking a full sheet of 1/4 birch and loser cutting it to the tank dimensions and then fiber glassing all the seams and coating the whole thing in heavy epoxy resin
[16:48:00] <laminae_> Like those huge fish holding tanks
[16:48:47] <laminae_> So whatever solution i choose needs to leave me all that open space below the actuator to have a slope
[16:51:26] <laminae_> Anything at all you can suggest for improvement?
[17:00:29] <JT-Shop> for a flood enclosure it must enclose the entire machine... not sure why you want flood for a router?
