[05:05:53] <{HD}> So now that I have a pyvcp button working how hard is it to add the same functionality to a physical button?
[05:06:34] <{HD}> I think I have parport 12 available to use.
[05:12:56] <{HD}> OMG did the app store remove the ability to see what the “in-app purcheses” were before downloading the app!?? I don’t see that line item any more.
[05:35:12] <gloops> lol! been messing about drawing dovetails for more than an hour, finally twigged what i was doing wrong....
[05:51:39] <jthornton> morning
[05:54:40] <jthornton> {HD}: do you want both the pyvcp button and the physical button to do the same thing?
[06:25:18] <Tom_L> morning
[06:25:59] <jthornton> morning
[06:26:16] <jthornton> I have a mouse hole someplace in the basement wall dammit
[06:26:44] <Tom_L> CaptHindsight, i did find this: https://www.freecadweb.org
[06:26:49] <Tom_L> might be it
[06:28:43] <Tom_L> 63F Hi 64
[06:28:44] <Tom_L> heh
[06:29:13] <Tom_L> tells me the wind will change out of the north today and get colder
[06:29:27] <jthornton> wow, we are 46°F to 79°F
[06:29:41] <Tom_L> Lo 46
[06:30:13] <jthornton> we get that tomorrow night
[06:31:08] <XXCoder> 49f to 53f here lol
[06:31:16] <XXCoder> highest of week 58f to 59f
[06:31:34] <XXCoder> that days raining also so it'll be nice and humid lol
[06:31:52] <XXCoder> this is season that forces calfornians to move away due to SAD

[06:35:17] <jthornton> I thought once you moved to california you could not leave
[06:36:19] <XXCoder> im not talking about people moving to calfornia lol
[06:36:31] <XXCoder> im talking about calfornians moving to washington then moving back or away
[06:41:32] <MarcelineVQ> you're allowed to leave, you're not allowed to leave unchanged.
[06:42:34] <jthornton> lol
[06:42:51] <XXCoder> I used to live at calfornia
[06:42:59] <XXCoder> bicycled all over, and I had iron legs
[06:43:18] <XXCoder> probably bulletproof legs lol I was 12 yr old to 13
[06:43:34] <jthornton> I went to california once but managed to escape
[06:43:37] <XXCoder> I used old style bicycle and wen up 45 degree or worse hills all time
[06:43:55] <XXCoder> I converted it to "fixed gear" so it was tough
[07:01:36] -!- emsjessec has joined #linuxcnc
[07:04:35] <jthornton> I went to frisco once and it killed my legs walking up and down the hills
[07:05:57] <XXCoder> free exercise
[07:06:09] <XXCoder> no need to go in and get embarried exercising
[07:06:19] <jthornton> yea once you get used to it
[07:12:39] <Loetmichel> jthornton: i was raised in Wuppertal/germany
[07:13:45] <Loetmichel> thats a city that follows a canyon that the river "Wupper" carved thru the landscape. going ANYWHERE out of the city meant to ride up a steep hillside for about 800m height difference.
[07:13:51] <Loetmichel> some places even more
[07:14:12] <Loetmichel> that was quite the training for bicycle AND on foot ;)

[07:16:04] <XXCoder> like a bowl eh heh
[07:16:31] <jthornton> I've been to a few places in Germany but not there :)
[07:17:06] <jthornton> the Schwebebahn looks interesting
[07:17:22] <Loetmichel> it is
[07:17:27] <Loetmichel> and very effective
[07:17:29] <XXCoder> https://www.youtube.com lol
[07:17:37] <Loetmichel> runs along the city every 3 minutes
[07:17:54] <Loetmichel> but loud if you live at the river banks
[07:19:02] <jthornton> I went to the Mercedes-Benz Museum that was very interesting to see the old single cylinder car run by a guy almost as old as the car
[07:21:45] <Loetmichel> XXCoder: yes, like a 40++km long and 5km wide bowl
[07:22:50] <jthornton> XXCoder: my chicken door is working flawlessly and is opening/closing on time each day :)
[07:23:06] <XXCoder> lol loet. jt that is awesome!
[07:23:53] <jthornton> yea, now I trying to make a library for the digole LCD but have hit a wall... so out comes the grappling gear

[08:04:50] <XXCoder> guys with cncs - time to cnc craft your pumpin! lol
[08:05:37] <XXCoder> I'd love to try that. add probing to get contours then engrave
[08:18:24] <jthornton> sounds like a fun project\
[08:19:06] <XXCoder> yep. though its bit hard to design a probe that has clearance in my machine
[08:19:17] <XXCoder> it probably has to be mounted higher up
[08:23:29] <Loetmichel> XXCoder: needs a 5 axis CNC though
[08:23:52] <Loetmichel> and some creative clamping
[08:24:00] <Loetmichel> maybe low melting wax?
[08:26:56] <XXCoder> 5 axis why?
[08:27:13] <XXCoder> probing code simply warps engraving gcode
[08:27:33] <miss0r> ha! I just got 150m black and 150m red 2.5mm^2 silicon high flex wire handed to me :D
[08:27:47] <XXCoder> engraving is also quite very low sideload you could simply use straps or tape
[08:29:04] <miss0r> Two of these cable drums with banana plugs on either end for testing and measuering over long distances. I quoted them for a price for combining the two on a special mount a few months ago, and I just called them a few minuts ago to ask them what was up. and they told me that I had been too expensive, but for my time I could keep the drums free of charge :]
[08:30:18] <Jin^eLD> miss0r: how's your MAHO project coming along? my buddy had his first chips this weekend although he has still quite some work ahead of him till the project is complete
[08:30:22] <miss0r> I think these retail at around 700-800usd :D
[08:30:43] <XXCoder> dang
[08:30:45] <miss0r> Jin^eLD: I've been too busy lately, sadly. :)
[08:30:51] <XXCoder> and you have 2? whats you do with em
[08:31:06] <miss0r> The controller is assembled & I have linux CNC installed on it. It is sitting on my desk waiting to be programmed
[08:31:20] <XXCoder> something like http://www.tis-gdv.de ?
[08:31:41] <miss0r> XXCoder: I don't know yet. I might keep one, I think. The other I will transform into some realy nice test leads, with wire clips on the end :)
[08:31:53] <miss0r> XXCoder: Slightly smaller :P
[08:32:17] <XXCoder> lol well off to bed I go
[08:32:55] <Jin^eLD> :)
[08:34:21] <miss0r> Jin^eLD: I think I'm a little stomped with a few things about doing this programming: One) I don't know where to start, and I haven't had the time to read up on it. two) I haven't had time :) three) I'm waiting for a new ballscrew I need to install on the maho before continueing(The y-axis needs to change the direction, as the current screw is a lefthand one, and I am replacing it with a right hand one. (I want
[08:34:22] <miss0r> the current controller to work with the machine before taking it down, should I need to replace it) four) I still need to figure out how to get the cables into the new controller..
[08:34:48] <miss0r> .. as they do not fit through the tube with the connectors still on there. So it was not as plug'n'play as I thought.
[08:35:18] <miss0r> sure, I could remove the plugs; but that would defeat the purpose of making it interchangeable with the old controller.. I'll need to mull this over a bit more
[08:35:49] <Jin^eLD> sounds like "a lot" to do... why do you need to replace the ballscrew?
[08:36:36] <Jin^eLD> oh so you want to keep the old controller permanently and have a re-pluggable option where you could plug in either linuxcnc or the original controller when needed?
[08:36:37] <miss0r> Too much slow in it. I reballed it, but it didn't quite do the trick.
[08:37:07] <Jin^eLD> I thought the old controller was just to test if everything worked and then it would be kicked out
[08:37:08] <miss0r> well.. not 'on the fly' as you make it sound :D but I will be keeping the old controller, should the new one fail for some reason
[08:37:23] <Jin^eLD> well, isn't "the new one" linuxcnc? :)
[08:37:46] <miss0r> yeah. but it is still stuffed with alot of different technology, some of which came from bulgaria...
[08:38:18] <Jin^eLD> oh? how did that happen? you're quite far away from .bg I think? :)
[08:38:36] <miss0r> but I *know* everything works. I have been using the maho for the past two years. if not three - it is part of my almost daily production
[08:38:54] <Jin^eLD> ah, I did not know that
[08:39:01] <Jin^eLD> I thought you got one and just started to retrofit
[08:39:26] <miss0r> I am in Denmark, so yeah, bulgaria is a bit far away. I needed these to use the linear scales on there: http://www.bulgarianindustry.bg
[08:40:12] <Jin^eLD> 200eur for such a small board...
[08:40:24] <miss0r> yeah...
[08:41:17] <miss0r> Jin^eLD: I think this is where I left it: https://imgur.com
[08:42:23] <Jin^eLD> does not look bad? tidy cabinet with a lot of stuff installed :)
[08:42:51] <miss0r> I would've loved to mave a bit more room, so I didn't look so stuffed and untidy :]
[08:43:11] <miss0r> but, on the other hand; I don't want to have a huge cabinet on the side of the cnc :)
[08:43:13] <Jin^eLD> in .at one guy is trying to sell one and a half MH600E's, but I think he's aiming for a too high price if I look at the photos https://www.willhaben.at
[08:44:17] <miss0r> pretty expensive :)
[08:44:32] <Jin^eLD> on the MH400 my friend simply put everything inside the original cabinet, but then again I have no idea how it did look originally, so maybe he only had the space because he through out the original controller which was anyway broken
[08:44:39] <Jin^eLD> yeah, too expensive I think :)
[08:44:52] <Jin^eLD> I doubt anyone will buy it for this price :)
[08:45:17] <miss0r> The original controller is inside the panel
[08:45:24] <miss0r> the HMI panel.
[08:45:45] <miss0r> but theres alot of unused space in my cabinet as well.
[08:46:32] <miss0r> The reason I put everything into my HMI panel, is because it was there in the original one. I've build it to be swappable with the original - I even reused the sub-d's setup.
[08:46:36] <miss0r> Quite a hassle.
[08:46:57] <Jin^eLD> https://www.youtube.com
[08:47:04] <Jin^eLD> that's how he did it
[08:48:41] <Jin^eLD> I think this swappable requirement causes a lot more work
[08:48:55] <Jin^eLD> but I understand that you don't want to dump the original stuff if you know it was working fine
[08:49:15] <miss0r> That controller there is looking pretty nice :]
[08:49:36] <miss0r> I'm not sure its alot more work, to be honnest. I just need to tie into the original wires.
[08:50:33] <Jin^eLD> he promised to replace the blue buttons with something nicer-looking ;) it's not finished yet
[08:50:44] <Jin^eLD> the case for the LCD and the buttons etc is lasered and welded
[08:51:05] <Jin^eLD> luckily I know a company who lasers stuff here in my area at quite low prices
[08:51:58] <miss0r> sweet. I had to go with a ready made cabinet, to keep prices at a reasonable level
[08:53:01] <Jin^eLD> so I take it, its quite expensive in your area? I'm really happy I have this possibility here, I use it a lot for various things and since its in my city there's no shipping involved
[08:53:50] <Jin^eLD> I rather struggle with other things - for instasnce: finding drops :P
[08:54:05] <miss0r> Well. I know a few places that does laser cutting, welding & bending ect. But for some reason everyone are crazy busy as of late. So, if I wanted to get anything done, I would have to go through the regular channels, and just pay up.
[08:55:48] <Jin^eLD> they need about a week to complete the order but they will do anything, like one 50 cents piece or whatever, they dont seem to care although it does get cheaper if you order more, but since its usually just for myself mostly have 1-piece special stuff :)
[08:56:50] <miss0r> That sounds like a nice place to live by. I wish I had that for a neighbour :)
[08:58:23] <Jin^eLD> actually picked some stuff up today, 5mm thick 180x30mm (supposed to become a handle) with some square and round holes - EUR1,50
[08:59:40] <Jin^eLD> well, if you have someone travelling back and fourth via Bratislava on a regular basis I can surely arrange some cheap cuts for you :)
[09:04:01] <miss0r> That'd be very nice :) But I don't realy know anyone going that direction :)
[09:04:26] <miss0r> I have to get a move on. A client just called me with a boring mill not working - I need to get a move on. See you around

[09:32:10] <jesseg> Does anyone know about these DRO linear scales all over ebay from China? Specifically wondering if they are reasonably durable. I've never used a glass scale before so I don't know what kind of resistance they have to oil and dust or slight misalignment between the two moving parts
[09:32:47] <jesseg> also curious what sort of output signal they have -- if it's regular quadrature?

[11:12:20] <pcw_home> can you post a link to the scales you are talking about? i think any scale that outputs quadrature would be real time (calipers use a slow serial protocol)

[12:19:48] <rmu> jesseg: started to count randomly even with no scale plugged in
[12:20:13] <rmu> signal seems to be RS422 comaptible quadrature and index
[12:24:37] <jesseg> rmu, interesting. So I might be best off making my own readout

[14:41:01] <Blumax> I have change net motion.probe-input <= gladevcp.hal_led_touch for net gladevcp.hal_led_touch <= motion.probe-input, no error
[14:42:38] <Blumax> I do not know if it works, I can not test ^^ But no error
[14:43:21] <Jin^eLD> Blumax: for testing the UI you could connect it to something else and toggle the value manually

[14:58:34] <Blumax> Jin^eLD, how ?
[14:59:14] <Blumax> Another signa ??? which ?
[14:59:37] <Blumax> (I work with a VM)
[15:03:45] <rmu> sync: i got two "SDS3", both don't work properly. strange design with an FPGA (Actel ProASIC) an da MSP430 that talk via 16 lines or so with each other. FPGA seems to do multiplexing for the LEDs and decoding of quadrature signals. a RS232-interface (level converter not populated) shows more sensible values, but LED display is very strange. datecode seems to be "2005-10".
[15:04:03] <Jin^eLD> Blumax: well, in hal you can connect anything to anything else so to speak... you could even come up with a simple XML based pyvcp UI which would act as a simulator for your real UI
[15:04:57] <Jin^eLD> i.e. you could connet your glade UI button not to a motion.xxx pin but to a pin that you control and this way test your glade UI
[15:05:27] <Jin^eLD> alternatively you could probably set the pins via hal shell, but I don't remember the commands from the top of my head
[15:06:13] <Jin^eLD> when I was developing stuff I basically had a separate .hal file configuration that connected my component to a simulator so I could test my work "offline", in my case I was testing a comp, but you can test your UI the same way...
[15:07:39] <Blumax> ok, i undestand, i use halui.mode.is-mdi
[15:10:26] -!- DaPeace has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
[15:11:14] <rmu> sync: IIRC the FPGA had some stability issues, doesn't run stable, but that was some 5+ years ago, don't remember exactly. i think probing around with the scope made the thing "work" when touching the right pins.

[17:01:19] <Jin^eLD> don't remind me of helium... I bought a 20l tank at an auction because the color on the photo was screwed up and I thought it'd be acetylene... :P

[22:15:38] <skunkworks> that is for readabillity
