[06:05:28] <jthornton> morning
[06:07:09] <XXCoder> hey
[06:09:58] <jthornton> damn monitor crapping out
[06:13:36] <XXCoder> sucks. light turns on and off?
[06:14:41] <jthornton> yea the blue power light just goes on and off, switched to a tiny one but crap it's hard to see lol
[06:15:20] <XXCoder> weird that happened to qa montior yeserday
[06:15:28] <XXCoder> I just unplugged it
[06:15:33] <XXCoder> its ok now so dunnp
[06:17:47] <jthornton> got a new monitor due here last tuesday maybe today it will show up lol
[06:18:05] <jthornton> can't get any chicken work done on this tiny monitor lol
[06:20:59] <Tom_L> morning
[06:26:53] <XXCoder> hey
[06:27:06] <jthornton> morning
[06:27:08] <XXCoder> jt hmm a len? ;)
[06:27:30] <jthornton> I swapped monitors for this old HP one
[06:29:55] <SpeedEvil> new monitor here too - which is finally big enough.
[06:30:21] <SpeedEvil> 40" curved 4K :)
[06:30:24] <XXCoder> so it grew enough to be finally pucked off montior tree? ;)
[06:32:11] <jthornton> https://www.amazon.com
[06:32:23] <jthornton> SpeedEvil: how do you like the curved monitor?
[06:32:28] <jthornton> got a link to it?
[06:32:38] <XXCoder> geez pretty cheap
[06:33:17] <jthornton> looked like most of them are 1920x1080 now
[06:33:29] <XXCoder> too bad no HDMI on pc
[06:33:41] <SpeedEvil> https://www.amazon.co.uk
[06:34:29] <jthornton> 3840 x 2160/4 what does the /4 mean?
[06:35:17] <SpeedEvil> I would like it slightly more curved, but it makes it a lot easier to manage when close to it - I'm sitting 1m from it
[06:35:19] <XXCoder> its 4 ms
[06:35:28] <XXCoder> 4 ms refresh I guess
[06:36:14] <XXCoder> response time 4 ms in list below it
[06:36:28] <SpeedEvil> It is finally large enough that I can't comfortably read text on the whole screen - which was not the case on my previous monitor - hence using multiple windows on the screen at the same time is not a sacrifice
[06:36:33] <XXCoder> not sure what response time is, but I guess its refresh
[06:36:35] <MarcelineVQ> not exactly. ms is related to color change speed, higher ms means you get worse ghosting, which translates to motion blur
[06:36:51] <XXCoder> ahh so whats decent range?
[06:36:56] <XXCoder> 4 ms without range is meaningless
[06:37:13] <MarcelineVQ> depends what you do, 4ms black to black is fine for most people, tvs are much worse
[06:37:39] <MarcelineVQ> you want like 2ms at most if you're gaming
[06:37:55] <SpeedEvil> The real nice thing for me is it goes quite dim without any flicker on the backlight
[06:37:59] <MarcelineVQ> because it's also relevant to input speed, you want to be able to react to what's happening as it happens
[06:38:15] <XXCoder> cool
[06:38:30] <MarcelineVQ> like when your reactions are tuned for 16 ms, 4ms delay is deadly
[06:38:59] <rmu> seems there is no real standard what "response time" really means
[06:39:20] <jthornton> so for programming 5ms is ok
[06:39:22] <jthornton> ?
[06:39:23] <rmu> could be duration of transition from "10% white" do "90% white" or the other way round or from 20% to 80%
[06:40:47] <rmu> 5ms is fast enough for programming
[06:40:48] <MarcelineVQ> jthornton: yeah for sure
[06:41:21] <rmu> those mainframe terminals back in the day had a response time measured in seconds ;-) and even that was usable for programming
[06:41:27] <XXCoder> I want 0.1 ms
[06:41:29] <XXCoder> ;)
[06:42:01] <SpeedEvil> rmu: Printing terminals are fun.
[06:42:04] <MarcelineVQ> input delay is a function of refresh rate and response time, if you're just coding and watching videos there's not really a wrong option in a modern panel
[06:42:53] <SpeedEvil> It's only really fast twitch games you care about.
[06:43:24] <SpeedEvil> If you don't actually care that your game is not running at 60FPS, you don't care about it.
[06:44:45] <XXCoder> yeah im not much of gamer anymore
[06:44:48] <rmu> scrolling around in program text or web pages also benefits from response time. slow displays just wash out the things that are in motion regardless the framerate
[06:45:31] <rmu> but i never saw a flat monitor in the last 10-15 years with problems like that.
[06:45:34] <SpeedEvil> once it hits perhaps a quarter of the frame period, returns diminish
[06:46:03] <rmu> early passive lc-displays were horrible
[06:46:17] <SpeedEvil> I can't seem to find the right search string to find out if curved monitors are made flat - and at what stage

[07:41:22] <XXCoder> oh not email, but git
[07:41:58] <jthornton> I need to get that setup on this pc

[09:56:24] <tiwake> JT-Shop: realistically the vulkan one is the same exact thing, just $500 cheaper. I have looked at many reviews of the vulkan and can not find anything wrong with it, even after a couple years of regular use
[09:56:44] <weenerdog> sorry was away jt. the latter.
[09:57:23] <weenerdog> i wont use it for snow unless i just gotta.
[10:00:12] <jthornton> I have the same a rear mounted grader blade for the `56 Ferguson, works pretty good on an angle
[10:08:37] <weenerdog> i wont use it unless we get buried. my pa aint very well and i would stay home unless i needed to take him to the hospital or something.
[10:08:59] <weenerdog> now my atv is a different story lol. i love playing in the snow on it.
[10:09:27] <weenerdog> 92 honda 300 4x4 i bought as a carcass and rebuilt with love

[10:16:09] <weenerdog> thats cool
[10:17:13] <tiwake> hmm
[10:17:26] <tiwake> jthornton: how much did that cost?
[10:28:41] <JT-Shop2> I'd have to look for the ticket, been a few years since I purchased it
[10:29:47] <weenerdog> look to be either around a grand or around 2 grand depending on which one
[10:30:02] <weenerdog> nice tool either way
[10:32:45] <JT-Shop2> it's a Millermatic Passport welder
