[00:09:36] <zeeshan> i was in the states for like 24 days.. drove to savannah, then new orleans
[00:09:40] <CaptHindsight> Boxing Day is ON only?!
[00:09:42] <zeeshan> why is all your food so big!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[00:09:54] <zeeshan> i had to keep remdining myself to order "small"
[00:09:55] <CaptHindsight> heh, have you seen the people?
[00:10:51] <CaptHindsight> zeeshan: keeps everyone slow moving, easier to catch
[00:10:57] <zeeshan> haha
[00:11:28] <CaptHindsight> yeah, you really see the difference down here with food size
[00:12:27] <CaptHindsight> everything is starting to look rundown now as well
[00:12:47] <zeeshan> theres a lot of people
[00:12:49] <zeeshan> thats for sure!
[00:13:26] <zeeshan> it's pretty crazy how you can keep so many people in such a huge amount of land
[00:13:29] <CaptHindsight> big people
[00:13:29] <zeeshan> all under one country
[00:13:38] <zeeshan> i like it
[00:13:57] <CaptHindsight> when I come back after many days in Asia it shocks me
[00:14:00] <zeeshan> driving from savannah to orleans i took I10
[00:14:19] <zeeshan> near tallahasse... it was all blown apart
[00:14:28] <zeeshan> i think there was a hurricane that went through there
[00:14:35] <zeeshan> whats better? asia or usa
[00:14:46] <CaptHindsight> it's different
[00:15:16] <CaptHindsight> what I've noticed is that we all have good and bad, it's just whats good and bad is different
[00:16:03] <CaptHindsight> and how much of either
[00:16:21] <zeeshan> best place is in the woods!
[00:16:23] <zeeshan> nice and quiet
[00:16:35] <CaptHindsight> Singapore is clean and safe but you get cained for chewing gum
[00:17:20] <zeeshan> ive heard that about them
[00:17:30] <zeeshan> kinda nuts how a simple thing here is a crime there
[00:17:35] <CaptHindsight> nice and quiet until you crave thai food or a concert
[00:18:10] <CaptHindsight> you get your face on a billboard in China now for jaywalking
[00:18:37] <CaptHindsight> -50 points and no high speed train for you
[00:18:56] <CaptHindsight> surveillance everywhere
[00:19:47] <zeeshan> wow
[00:20:16] <zeeshan> are you buying stuff from china for work?
[00:20:40] <CaptHindsight> Thailand is nice, except for the cavil wars and don't take a picture of a Buddha or a tattoo of one
[00:20:52] <CaptHindsight> had a factory there
[00:20:59] <CaptHindsight> the start of one
[00:21:37] <CaptHindsight> haven't been back to China for a couple of years
[00:22:21] <CaptHindsight> japan is nice, clean friendly, fun etc
[00:22:36] <CaptHindsight> but you're always an outsider
[00:22:56] <CaptHindsight> don't blow your nose in public
[00:24:28] <zeeshan> why?
[00:24:52] <CaptHindsight> there it's the equivalent of wiping your butt
[00:26:58] <CaptHindsight> and in China you have to dodge the hockers being shot right from the nostrils onto the sidewalk
[00:27:07] <zeeshan> eww
[00:28:20] <CaptHindsight> travel is fun
[00:28:54] <zeeshan> i like being a hermit

[10:26:29] <JT-Shop> yea the bearings for the lathe showed up last night
[10:27:11] <zeeshan> spindle bearings? :D
[10:28:45] <JT-Shop> aye and the reeves bearing
[10:29:37] <zeeshan> document the install
[10:29:57] <zeeshan> ive never replaced spindle bearings before on a cnc lathe
[10:30:10] <zeeshan> could learn a thing or two!
[10:37:10] <JT-Shop2> they are for my Jet 14" x 42" wood lathe
[10:42:46] -!- veek has joined #linuxcnc
[10:53:31] <weenerdog> i've never turned anything on a wood lathe. i think i could probably launch a chisel into my head with one lol
[10:58:38] <Tom_L> it's about leverage
[10:59:24] <Tom_L> keep the toolpost to work distance much less than the toolpost to operator distance
[11:00:25] <Tom_L> or toolrest in the case of a wood lathe
[11:05:53] -!- ziper has joined #linuxcnc
[11:25:59] * JT-Shop2 thinks the guy that sold me the lathe could not figure out how to change the reeves pulleys
[11:37:10] <Roguish> JT, my big Series II BP has a reeves pulley, and a 4 HP motor.
[11:39:40] <JT-Shop2> my series 1 has reeves pulley too I forgot the hp maybe 2 or so
[11:40:07] <JT-Shop2> I had to rebuild the bp soon after purchasing it
[11:43:39] <Roguish> JT, what debian did you just install?
[11:44:04] <JT-Shop2> 9
[11:44:17] <Roguish> and desktop?
[11:44:23] <JT-Shop2> mate
[11:44:33] <Tom_L> of course :)
[11:45:15] <Roguish> im going to set up a VM to try and learn a bit of Python. and maybe QT
[11:45:27] <JT-Shop2> https://paste.ubuntu.com
[11:45:47] <JT-Shop2> my new chicken door uses pyqt4 and python3
[11:46:14] <JT-Shop2> I even used pyqt4 on the non-gui chicken door to get event timers
[11:46:16] <Tom_L> hi tech chickens
[11:46:29] <JT-Shop2> the new ones will have a peck screen
[11:46:47] <Tom_L> soon to come an egg conveyor?
[11:47:09] <JT-Shop2> just have to glue a rubber thing on their beak so they can use the touch screen
[11:47:14] <Roguish> you are the Master Chicken Guy
[11:47:31] <JT-Shop2> I think maybe an egg sorting robot maybe
[11:47:44] <JT-Shop2> or a robot chicken poop scoop
[11:48:14] <JT-Shop2> I've learned a lot about pyqt in the process

[14:06:36] <fragalot> clever little thing.. and i'm surprised how smoothly it moves given that it's just a bunch of injection molded plastic clipped together
[14:10:13] <JT-Shop2> yea and the reeves pulley on the spindle
[14:10:46] <JT-Shop2> the guy had all the parts but I figure he didn't know how to get it apart and back together

[14:16:34] <Rab> fragalot, do you blow on it or what?
[14:16:38] <fragalot> yeah
[14:16:52] <fragalot> but even from 2m away you can get it going quite easily

[14:19:52] <fragalot> brb
[14:21:01] <fragalot> not very helpful i'm afraid
[14:21:32] <Rab> No worries, thanks for checking!
[14:21:42] <fragalot> it was a clear plastic bag, with a paper label at the top saying "Build your own Strandbeest. dutch: STRAND = beach BEEST = animal. Based on the work of Dutch kitentic artist Theo Jansen.
[14:21:59] <fragalot> no maker, no distributor, nothing.
[14:23:06] <Rab> Does it look like this one? https://smile.amazon.com
[14:23:40] <fragalot> that one doesn't appear to have the little rubber feet mine did, but yes, it looks exactly like that.
[14:23:51] <fragalot> I think they're probably all made by the same manufacturer
[14:24:00] <Rab> sweet

[20:05:17] <TurBoss> hello
[20:05:35] <TurBoss> I'm trying to load a module that I have on another machine to this new one

[20:06:36] <TurBoss> error: emcStatusBuffer invalid err=3
[20:06:45] <TurBoss> when I poll stat
[20:07:24] <TurBoss> running machine is 2.8 buildbot master

[21:03:19] <ziper> converting an old CNC machine is as easy getting some stepper drivers, a contoller, and a PC right?

[21:22:57] <XXCoder> jthornton: glad your package arrived!
[21:24:13] <XXCoder> ziper: theres lot of factors

[22:05:12] <ziper> XXCoder, in what ways could it be more complicated?
[22:06:28] <XXCoder> like what machine it is, some is quite large
[22:06:46] <XXCoder> old but small machine chances is you could pretty easily do it
[22:06:58] <ziper> small
[22:07:17] <ziper> the one I am looking at is an isel lathe, meant for educational purposes
[22:08:56] <XXCoder> https://www.publicsurplus.com ?
[22:14:05] <Rab> Looks like that lathe is fitted with DC servos. If yours is similar, that could make the project somewhat more challenging; since you either have to figure out how to talk to the Isel drives or source your own.
[22:16:36] <Rab> I have an Isel servo drive cage that I put together from a box of parts. It seemed like good ware, but the interface wasn't obvious. (Mine seemed to fail power on diagnostic, so I never got further.)

[23:23:29] <ziper> oof servo drivers look a bit more expensive than steppers
