[04:32:06] <fragalot> well... you know you're getting older when cars are starting to get classed as "oldtimers" even though they're younger than you.
[04:32:44] <XXCoder> lol
[04:32:56] <XXCoder> worse when cars is now "classic"
[04:33:07] <XXCoder> none for me yet tho lol
[05:13:56] <gloops> even older when you see motorbikes that were around as a kid in a museum lol
[05:18:49] <fragalot> gloops: or the ones you used to ride
[05:20:48] <gloops> my first bike on the road was a honda 90 cub, not quite a museum piece yet but they are slowly rising in value
[05:21:26] <fragalot> those are what XXCoder refers to as 'classic'
[05:21:40] <fragalot> everyone and their mum had one
[05:21:43] <fragalot> :)
[05:23:21] <gloops> yeah they were everywhere, the not so common monkey bike must be getting pretty rare now though
[05:24:59] <gloops> https://i.pinimg.com
[05:25:12] <gloops> hard to tell if that is a vintage, they remade them
[05:25:26] <fragalot> there were a LOT of knock-off dax's when I was a student
[05:25:59] <fragalot> most of the real ones had issues with overheating. the knock-offs seemed to run more reliably funnily enough
[05:26:36] <fragalot> when going places we often had to wait for the fancy ones to cool down so the piston would shrink down enough again to run :D
[05:27:45] <gloops> the originals were the same engine as the honda c50-90, pretty bulletproof - a lot of bikes in those days needed a 'cooler' occasionally though
[05:28:27] <fragalot> which the dax did not have
[05:28:47] <gloops> a lot of the brit bikes had no oil pump to speak of, the crank just used to bath in the oil and flick some up the bore lol
[05:29:14] <fragalot> a recently deceased friend of mine had one of the very first harleys in his little home museum
[05:29:24] <fragalot> beautifully complicated machine
[05:29:44] <fragalot> you needed all 4 limbs working in harmony just to keep the thing running :D
[05:31:34] <gloops> yes a weekend touring must have been crippling
[05:35:32] <gloops> well back to the tidying
[05:35:52] <fragalot> have fun

[08:13:34] <gloops> just using a flat block with emery cloth so far as i can see
[08:15:21] <gloops> he isnt trying to straighten or flatten anything, just cleaning it up
[08:15:33] <veek> it looks like some kind of file.. it's spade shaped with a handle in the middle
[08:16:02] <veek> i was wondering how he got the rust off..
[08:16:56] <gloops> ill have another look, didnt see that
[08:17:23] <veek> sandpaper and scotchbrite on the lathe
[08:17:36] <gloops> oh that, nah just a general scraper for paint and stuff
[08:18:54] <gloops> not to be confused with a bearing scraper https://2.bp.blogspot.com
[08:20:02] <veek> oh

[11:57:35] <The_Ball> Hi guys, I need some extra information in the tool table and was hoping I could use one of the A-W columns for this, however I can't find a G-code to update the tool table for these columns
[11:57:49] <The_Ball> G10 can update radius etc
[11:58:09] <The_Ball> I'm trying to make some macros for a tool setter
[12:06:06] <JT-Shop2> a-w are axes just like xyz
[12:06:51] <JT-Shop2> so one of the G10's can set those

[12:41:21] <The_Ball> G10 L10 P20 Z0 works, but U0 gives "Bad character 'u' used
[12:48:44] <JT-Shop> I assume you would need a U axis defined to use it

[18:42:19] <veek> wrt motors - can't we use pulleys to get the required speed on a bench grinder.. for eg: for a 7" wheel at 3500rpm and a 1400rpm motor.. at 1/2hp.. you'd need a 17.5" pulley.. which is kind of ginormous.. however could it be done.. that's 1282"/s.. is that fast or slow for wood/assuming a wooden wheel
[18:43:47] <veek> 6414 feet/minute
[18:44:24] <veek> steel has a sfm of 60-100 SFM

[20:43:45] <Loetmichel> roycroft: because you need a lot less riser and "sprout" when you have heightend "gravity" thru the rotational forces
[20:44:06] <Loetmichel> which is good when you are casting material that costs $30k per gram ;)

[21:24:25] -!- gloops has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[21:39:31] <Loetmichel> jdh: gold
[21:40:06] <Loetmichel> hp inkjet ink is only about $10 per gram
[21:40:21] <Loetmichel> maybe even less depending on the cartridge size
[21:48:17] <jdh> your gold price is several orders of magnitude off
[21:50:00] <jdh> or is that k a currency, not a kilo.
[21:54:25] <Loetmichel> 3 orders of magnitude actually
[21:54:50] <Loetmichel> the $30000 i had in mind were for the kg, not the gram
