Just have a secure hdd on my desk that has to be shielded... plugged it in, unlocked it... started a hdd test tool to estabilsh a "baseline"... disk selflocks... $me unlocked it again (thinking that was a fluke) , started HDD-test-tool...*locked*... seems intentional when any lowlevel commands are recieved. now i wonder how you format those in case the it needs a differend FS or so?!?
[03:32:33] <XXCoder> is there protect bit or something?

[06:08:27] <jthornton> morning
[06:08:37] <XXCoder> hey
[06:14:32] <Tom_L> morning
[06:14:38] <XXCoder> hey

[06:30:59] <perry_j1987> project for this morning is to setup m6 script for mach3 on this 6040 so i can do manual tool changes and have it touch off the new tools
[06:31:20] <XXCoder> nice
[06:31:51] <Tom_L> mach3 doesn't do tool changes?
[06:32:14] <Tom_L> oh.. for touch off
[06:32:27] <perry_j1987> ya just an er20 collet spindle on this thing

[07:34:48] <jthornton> yea I can convert from Gregorian date to Julian date in C
[07:34:59] <XXCoder> awesome
[07:35:21] <jthornton> that was the first step to get the solar events
[07:36:56] <jthornton> now to do that as a function in C
[07:37:30] <XXCoder> only thing I was wondering
[07:37:42] <XXCoder> do you define angles in order to get sunrise/set?
[07:39:34] <jthornton> https://aa.usno.navy.mil
[07:39:54] <jthornton> that's the one I'm trying now, the one I did yesterday was flawed
[07:40:14] <Jin^eLD> https://git.digitalstrom.org
[07:40:32] <Jin^eLD> thats what we use for sunrise/sunset calculation, seems to work fine
[07:40:39] <XXCoder> ah ascension is sunrise lol fancy word
[07:40:47] <Jin^eLD> can surely be converted to C or any other language
[07:41:02] <jthornton> https://paste.ubuntu.com
[07:41:24] <jthornton> or I messed up the calculation from that page
[07:42:38] <jthornton> yuck js
[07:42:52] <jthornton> be easier to just do it in C than try and convert js I think
[07:43:19] <XXCoder> too tired to analyze code lol
[08:36:42] <Loetmichel> GNAH! Phonecalls you dont want to have at work: Wife just called 2 hours ago: "toilet floor where you changed a faucet on saturday is 1" under water, even the hallway parquet flooring is wet!"... so i drove home way over the speed limit, closed the shutoffs, drained the water with a shopvac, dismantled the faucet: missing a simple o-ring at one of the flex hoses... :-( (must have overlooked
[08:36:42] <Loetmichel> that when mouting)... got a new ring, assembled it again, pressure test: holds water now... aaand back to work, this time with two oak parquet strips that are now "bananas" that i somehow have to flatten again before guing back onto the floor :-(

[16:01:35] <perry_j1987> lol
[16:01:44] <perry_j1987> i was just wondering thread milling
[16:01:51] <XXCoder> second shift work
[16:02:00] <XXCoder> though today is holiday day.
[16:02:18] <perry_j1987> require a very rigid machine to work without snapping them?
[16:02:42] <XXCoder> good question
[16:03:01] <XXCoder> probably as rigid as machine that can mill alum
[16:03:16] <XXCoder> if milling alum that is
[16:05:57] <XXCoder> i only work with bigger machines and tiny wood only machine, no middle ground lol
[16:06:40] <XXCoder> besides regular endmills should experence more sideload than milling thread tool anyway
[16:08:55] <perry_j1987> i havnt bought any thread mills yet to try
[16:09:00] <perry_j1987> big pucker factor with their cost lol
[16:09:10] <perry_j1987> and my history with small endmills on this 6040 sof ar lol
[16:10:46] <XXCoder> one guy here is making thread cam
[16:10:52] <XXCoder> which is pretty awesome
[16:10:57] <perry_j1987> thread cam?
[16:11:11] <XXCoder> yep exactly what it says on tin
[16:11:32] <perry_j1987> i havnt played with anything else but fusion 360 yet
[16:11:39] <XXCoder> it creates gcode for milling certain tool mill for certain bore size for thread type so on

[20:44:46] <CaptHindsight> https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com
[20:44:48] <TurBoss> buy spare parts
[20:45:06] <TurBoss> just requires a big rectifier
[20:46:06] <CaptHindsight> TurBoss: is your recommendation that I build them?
[20:46:35] <TurBoss> if you could and don't manage to find
[20:46:56] <CaptHindsight> that is a given
[20:47:11] <TurBoss> https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com
[20:47:41] <TurBoss> also works for 120V
[20:49:23] <CaptHindsight> I'm using them at 120VACV and 220Vac
[20:51:03] <CaptHindsight> 60Hz and 50Hz respectively
[21:02:58] <Tom_L> do they give dimensions?
[21:04:15] <Tom_L> yeah in the manual...
[21:06:00] -!- _unreal_ has joined #linuxcnc
[21:18:28] <gregcnc> the stepper/logic supply in Emco machines is just a big toroid rectifier and cap
[21:28:20] <gregcnc> I was looking at a transformer that was in a compressor I bought. 1000USD for a 0.5kVA!!
[21:34:07] <CaptHindsight> I was in a hurry a few weeks ago and misread a product description, I paid the same price for 50mg of a chemical as what ~1Kg usually sells for
[21:35:01] <gregcnc> worst thing is probably the time to wait to get another kg?
[21:35:05] <CaptHindsight> so about 20,000 X
[21:35:24] <CaptHindsight> was only $50 but still
[21:36:01] <CaptHindsight> I just didn't see the m in front of the g
[21:36:16] <gregcnc> some ultra lab grade or just someone making a ton of money on the product?
[21:36:28] <CaptHindsight> i was thinking 50g on short notice i was willing to pay the premium
[21:36:38] <CaptHindsight> ton of money
[21:37:32] <gregcnc> too bad it's not rainwater you're after
[21:37:42] <CaptHindsight> paid the extra $30 for fedex as well :)
[21:37:54] <gregcnc> doh!
[21:38:25] <CaptHindsight> yeah, would have been happier of i realized I blew $90 on something like booze
[21:38:33] <CaptHindsight> of/if
[21:38:53] <CaptHindsight> or even fell out of my pocket
[21:40:44] <CaptHindsight> gregcnc: no more rain until Wed.
[21:41:13] <CaptHindsight> then it's humidity, bugs and mold until November
[21:41:25] <XXCoder> losing freecad once again lol
[21:41:28] <gregcnc> i'm tired of the rain already
[21:41:32] <XXCoder> *linuxcnc
[21:41:40] <XXCoder> I miss rain
[21:42:38] <CaptHindsight> XXCoder: I'll be happy to send you a bag full
[21:42:46] <XXCoder> lol
[21:42:54] <XXCoder> also lol: "Make sure you made backups, you tested Linux Mint 19 'Tara' in live mode and you performed your favorite superstitious tricks before proceeding."
[21:43:37] <CaptHindsight> going to install LCNC on Devuan with preempt_rt
[21:43:59] <XXCoder> i hate how linuxcnc requires weird trick to install on modern linux
[21:44:09] <XXCoder> for run test not for actual machine operation
[21:44:15] <CaptHindsight> anyone care about systemD?
[21:44:29] <CaptHindsight> XXCoder: what trick?
[21:45:16] <XXCoder> briefly changing system to earlier version to force install old version of python so linuxcnc can be installed
[21:45:48] <XXCoder> systemmd is huge and messy but i dont really care
[21:46:10] <CaptHindsight> old Python?
[21:46:19] <XXCoder> hold on let me find
