[05:52:07] <jthornton> that must have been fun to measure
[05:52:41] <jthornton> morning
[05:59:58] <Tom_L> morning
[06:01:36] <pink_vampire> from what alloy of steel the linear rail shaft is made out of?
[06:01:56] <pink_vampire> hi Tom_L and jthornton
[06:02:19] <jthornton> could be any alloy
[06:02:23] BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
[06:02:28] <pink_vampire> I'm talking about those 8mm rods that 3d printer use.
[06:03:09] <jthornton> no telling what alloy China uses to make them
[06:03:15] <SpeedEvil> You'd hope it was ground hardened rod.
[06:03:34] <pink_vampire> I mean in general..
[06:03:36] <SpeedEvil> But in many cases, it won't be very hardened.
[06:03:44] <SpeedEvil> There is no in general.
[06:03:49] <jthornton> lol
[06:04:02] <SpeedEvil> 'an alloy of steel' is probably the best you're gonna come up with.
[06:04:05] <jthornton> you trying to make some or?
[06:04:38] <SpeedEvil> From a rigidity point of view, it soesn't matter at all, as all steel is similarly rigid up to its plastic limit.
[06:06:04] <pink_vampire> I'm trying to do an analysis for a cnc machine frame.
[06:06:27] <pink_vampire> and I need to select material
[06:07:54] <jthornton> https://www.thomsonlinear.com
[06:09:02] <pink_vampire> 1566 Carbon Steel
[06:10:13] <jthornton> got all the dead oak trees cut down yesterday, some cut up into logs and stacked... I think my firewood storage will be over flowing now
[06:10:17] <Tom_L> jthornton, do you know if the syntax on the 7i77 to invert an input is different than the others?
[06:10:30] <Tom_L> .in_not gives an error
[06:11:08] <jthornton> you can list all the pins that are available with show pin
[06:11:22] <Tom_L> i can't :)
[06:11:30] <Tom_L> i don't have a 7i77
[06:11:32] <jthornton> they should be similar to all the other mesa cards
[06:11:44] <Tom_L> that's what i would have thought
[06:12:29] <jthornton> hm2_5i25.0.7i77.0.0.input-02-not
[06:12:39] <jthornton> that's my BP mill
[06:13:04] <Tom_L> net x-jog-select joint.0.jog-enable <= hm2_7i92.0.7i77.0.0.input-20.in_not
[06:13:08] <Tom_L> so it is different
[06:13:16] <Tom_L> slightly different syntax
[06:13:23] <jthornton> different than what?
[06:13:43] <Tom_L> mine for one
[06:14:06] <jthornton> you said you don't have a 7i77???
[06:14:24] <Tom_L> no but the boards aren't consistent
[06:14:37] <Tom_L> net button-tool-change hal_manualtoolchange.change_button <= hm2_[HOSTMOT2](BOARD).0.gpio.038.in_not
[06:14:43] <Tom_L> i have that on one of mine
[06:15:06] <jthornton> ah a gpio pin
[06:15:19] <Tom_L> i knew they were different but couldn't remember the syntax
[06:15:34] <jthornton> yea it doesn't make sense to have input-xx.in
[06:16:00] <Tom_L> i still don't think it will fix anything but i was sure curious
[06:17:43] <Tom_L> is the 7i77 not gpio?
[06:18:51] <jthornton> no, the 7i77 has pin names, the gpio is usually on the 5i25 etc
[06:20:39] <Tom_L> ok
[06:21:10] <Tom_L> fair to say gpio applies to the main board and input / output apply to the daughter cards?
[06:21:20] <jthornton> aye
[06:22:32] <Tom_L> are io 20 21 22 in fact inputs on the 7i77?
[06:23:03] <Tom_L> well they must be because they are switching in the watch window
[06:23:55] <jthornton> https://paste.ubuntu.com
[06:24:29] <Tom_L> but wouldn't that depend on the bit file loaded?
[06:24:30] <jthornton> do you have a 7i77?
[06:24:34] <Tom_L> no
[06:24:48] <jthornton> how are you watching them in a watch window?
[06:24:56] <Tom_L> he keeps pasting them
[06:25:03] <jthornton> ah ok
[06:25:56] <Tom_L> i'll have him try the -not input once but then i'm out of ideas
[06:26:54] <Tom_L> i'm wondering if it could be a joint / axis issue
[06:27:20] <Tom_L> he has to use joint in the config but in the watch window it shows axis
[06:27:46] <Tom_L> the led changes but the TRUE FALSE stays the same
[06:30:25] <jthornton> in 2.8> there is joints and axes
[06:31:26] <jthornton> do you know of a good whosit tool to find out who registered a domain?
[07:04:02] <gregcnc> any, but try a few, a lot of people hide these days

[09:14:21] <Lcvette> hey guys, who here is a hal wizard that can solve a stumping problem Tomn_L and I have battled for 2 days now
[09:14:49] <Lcvette> it is in master 2.9
[09:14:57] <Lcvette> with a pendant
[09:15:17] <Lcvette> the issue is we can see everythinhg is wired correctly see changes in the pins in halshow
[09:15:23] <Lcvette> but we cannot get axis movement

[10:30:37] <Lcvette> Tom_L was trying to see if an inverted signal on the input would work but the syntax he uses that works on his machine is not working on 2.9

[11:18:47] <Loetmichel> *haha* Your weight to much for the gas strut in your office chair? no problem, 3d-printing to the rescue... i only wonder how long that bit of green PLA will carry my weight :-) -> http://www.cyrom.org
[11:20:44] <jesseg> LOL.. but I think you can get new struts
[11:21:15] -!- ziper has joined #linuxcnc
[11:21:42] <Loetmichel> jesseg: doesent help
[11:21:48] <Loetmichel> the strut is to weak for 120kg
[11:22:00] <Loetmichel> it sags down over time
[11:22:09] <Loetmichel> new strut wouldnt be better ;)
[11:30:05] -!- CaptHindsight has joined #linuxcnc
[11:36:32] <jesseg> Loetmichel, odd. 120kg shouldn't be any problem for good hydraulics. If the strut sags down it's got a leaky valve.
[11:36:51] <jesseg> unless we're talking years. How long does it take to sag?
[11:39:12] <CaptHindsight> a few years ago we started noticing that the cheap vinyl office hairs would delaminate after a year or two...
[11:39:31] <CaptHindsight> the cylinders would start leaking as well
[11:40:02] <CaptHindsight> at first you start noticing vinyl shed on the floors
[11:40:32] <CaptHindsight> then your vinyl chair turns into a thin cloth covered chair
[11:40:37] <Loetmichel> jesseg: the chairs are onla rated for 90kg ;)
[11:40:48] <Loetmichel> only
[11:41:09] <CaptHindsight> people are only rated for 90Kg in china
[11:41:14] <Loetmichel> they only sag when I sit on them. all of them
[11:41:20] <CaptHindsight> over that you count as two people
[11:41:24] <Loetmichel> if my coworker sits on mine everything is fine

Murphy must work overtime today: FOUR dead cars on the curb. one on the oncoming lane, couldnt ask if he needs help, one had a burst radiator, one lost a piston ("lies over there in the ditch"), one was changing a tyre... and then i overtook a tow truck with a burned out car on its back... ?!?
[12:36:19] <CaptHindsight> Loetmichel: did the weather just change from summer-like to fall-like?
