[00:26:39] <XXCoder> buy a mt1 tool and subtract that from mt3? ;)
[00:34:38] <veegee> The PEX tube came in a roll. What's a good way to straighten it?
[00:34:41] <veegee> Heat gun?

[06:27:05] <veegee> so... tired
[06:27:24] <veegee> been up for the past 24 hours moving the last of my equipment
[06:28:12] -!- XXCoder1 has joined #linuxcnc
[06:28:13] <veegee> that forklift has been incredibly useful
[06:28:21] <veegee> couldn't have done any of this without it
[06:28:29] <XXCoder1> nice!
[06:28:48] <XXCoder1> so its good and functioinal?
[06:29:09] <veegee> yeah, I made sure it was when I bought it
[06:29:18] <XXCoder1> :)
[06:29:42] <veegee> only flaw is the propane tank is really old and spews propane when being refilled. It's fine when it's attached to the forklift though
[06:30:12] <veegee> I think I'll steal a tank from the local chain grocery store
[06:30:26] <veegee> a good old switcharoo with my tank
[06:30:32] <XXCoder1> not too safe. while that tank isnt too expensive its better than fire
[06:31:04] <veegee> they have enough billions in the tank, stolen from the people by not paying taxes
[06:31:09] <veegee> won't be an issue for them
[06:31:28] <veegee> it doesn't leak when being used
[06:32:16] <veegee> I'll get a new tank one way or another when I wake up from my nap,

[10:55:30] <pink_vampire> hi jymmmm
[11:00:29] <perry_j1987> morning
[11:03:23] <jymmmm> Hey pinky, how's it goin?
[11:12:14] <pink_vampire> did you saw that? https://imgur.com
[11:12:33] <pink_vampire> jymmmm: ^
[11:14:13] -!- vuko has quit [Quit: leaving]
[11:14:15] <JavaBean> is that a 5thou or a 5tens?
[11:14:21] -!- vuko has joined #linuxcnc
[11:16:35] <pink_vampire> 0.0005"
[11:17:08] <JavaBean> 5tens, thanks. couldn't see a decimal
[11:17:53] * JavaBean grumbles about imgur not working well on this laptop
[11:18:45] <pink_vampire> ?
[11:19:43] <JavaBean> can't "zoom in" on the images, can't resize the page... shoot, its a crapshoot if the comments will load... not sure on what the cause is
[11:20:11] <SpeedEvil> JavaBean: imgur being shit
[11:20:27] <pink_vampire> https://i.imgur.com
[11:20:31] * JavaBean shrugs, doesn't know
[11:20:44] <jymmmm> pink_vampire: lol
[11:20:50] <pink_vampire> this is direct URL to the image
[11:23:04] <JavaBean> i will take your word for it, hun. it isn't loading
[11:25:50] <JavaBean> lol, clicked it again... not watching what room i am in... and it loaded right up. and now that its a bit bigger the decimal is obvious
[11:25:52] * JavaBean sighs
[11:42:30] <Tom_L> it's the pink that threw you off
[11:45:35] <JavaBean> or the fact that it was only about 4" of image. gotta love 13" screens
[12:11:54] <perry_j1987> project for today, figure out how to get these new carbide insert lathe tools into fusion 360 tool library
[12:12:38] <JavaBean> DUDE, would probably be easier to solve world hunger instead
[12:13:36] -!- jodimalo has joined #linuxcnc
[12:13:45] <andypugh> perry_j1987: Go to the “Manufacture” mode, then click the “Manage tools” button
[12:14:10] <perry_j1987> i dont have any info on what these inserts are
[12:14:18] <andypugh> Pick “local” (probably) and your tool library, then the “+ tool” button top-right.
[12:14:37] <andypugh> Where did you get them from?
[12:14:42] <perry_j1987> https://amzn.to
[12:14:45] <perry_j1987> got this thing
[12:15:23] <andypugh> I see WNMG, CCMT and DCMT
[12:15:47] <andypugh> And a a 16ER
[12:18:56] <andypugh> Hmm, I have been using ISO designations. Looks like those are wacky Imperial ones.
[12:34:40] <Tom_L> most inserts should be in a generic library i would think
[12:36:18] <perry_j1987> what about the holders
[12:36:43] <perry_j1987> the laser engraved lettering on the holders is for them or the inserts? (sorry my first insert tooling getting up to speed)
[12:37:35] <Tom_L> what lettering is it?
[12:39:12] <perry_j1987> like SDJCR
[12:39:32] <perry_j1987> err SDLCR i mean
[12:42:25] <Tom_L> https://www.iscar.com
[12:49:20] <perry_j1987> thanks
[12:57:00] -!- gloops has joined #linuxcnc
[12:59:43] <enleth> perry_j1987: insert tooling is standardized to hell and back
[13:01:27] <enleth> perry_j1987: unless you have some really weird stuff, it'll be in the library
[13:02:09] <enleth> weird stuff being, for example, 1960s Soviet polycrystalline diamond inserts
[13:09:36] -!- veek has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[13:19:39] <andypugh> perry_j1987: The lettering on the holder is for the holder. All that matters is the angle at which it presents the tool.
[13:20:06] <andypugh> (I already told you the insert shapes)
[13:22:02] <andypugh> WNMG is my go-to tool (that’s the trigons) as they have 6 cutting edges per insert (you can rotate them _and) flip them.
[13:23:38] <andypugh> The inserts that came with the tools are probably of mediocre quality, and are likely to chip easily. Name-brand ones might be worth the extra when replacing them. (but from eBay, not full price)
[13:34:56] <perry_j1987> ya they only came with one per holder
[13:35:10] <perry_j1987> so i gotta figure out which ones to order and get some spares in
[13:35:31] <perry_j1987> i need some more oxa tool holders too
[13:42:37] <andypugh> As I said, I like the WNMG
[13:45:35] -!- jodimalo has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[13:48:06] <perry_j1987> oh btw i picked up a https://www.fluidlinesystems.net mounted in an aluminum reservoir http://www.fluidlinesystems.net
[13:48:56] <perry_j1987> guy gave it to me along with a canvas bag full of hose fittings and manifolds he was going to setup auto oiling system on his machines
[13:49:02] <perry_j1987> but never got around to it
[13:49:18] <perry_j1987> i was wondering if it'd work to make a flood coolant system for my mini lathe
[13:58:31] <enleth> perry_j1987: those are metering pumps, they discharge tiny amounts of oil at a regular interval, at a very high pressure
[13:59:12] <enleth> ah, this one is continuous, sorry
[13:59:12] -!- Isleape has joined #linuxcnc
[13:59:35] <enleth> anyway, probably unsuitable for coolant
[13:59:45] <enleth> high pressure, low flow rate
[14:00:25] <enleth> hold on to that bag, it'll be super useful whenever you acquire a larger machine
[14:00:44] <perry_j1987> should i hang on to the whole thing or try and sell it
[14:08:04] -!- ve7it has joined #linuxcnc
[14:15:08] <enleth> if you expect to get a large mill or lathe in a reasonably near future, then hold on to it
[14:15:22] <enleth> otherwise, it's definitely worth quite a bit
[14:20:02] <perry_j1987> what would it sell for you think
[14:20:14] <perry_j1987> its un-used

[20:02:25] <pink_vampire> hi
[20:02:34] <XXCoder> hey pink
[20:02:46] <XXCoder> funny thing today, just recent looked out of front door
[20:03:01] <XXCoder> then herese car drives down road. okay. lol
[20:03:46] <pink_vampire> nice
[20:04:19] <XXCoder> i cant picture people with belief that signs can happen thinking if they saw same thing
[20:04:22] <XXCoder> good thing I dont lol
[20:05:41] <pink_vampire> https://i.imgur.com
[20:06:13] <XXCoder> hmm 4 rolled up something on foil set base
[20:06:23] <XXCoder> planning to make cast something?
[20:06:28] <pink_vampire> no
[20:08:06] <JT-Cave> I was saying night to Deejay lol

[20:10:11] <JT-Cave> what are you talking about signs?
[20:10:32] <XXCoder> oh some people belive in there being signs of things to come
[20:10:48] <JT-Cave> ah that kind of sign
[20:10:55] <XXCoder> when i walked out front door to look at weather etc a herse drove by lol
[20:11:15] <XXCoder> if I belived in signs that would be.... worrying sign. good thing I dont :P
[20:11:16] <JT-Cave> I don't see covid 19 going away in a long time
[20:11:31] <XXCoder> nah its not going anytime soon
[20:11:51] <XXCoder> only one finally ran out of covid cases but it was smallish one and they had serious lockdown
[20:11:58] <XXCoder> much earlier lockdown too
[20:12:18] <pink_vampire> High-end users boost GPS accuracy with dual-frequency receivers and/or augmentation systems. These can enable real-time positioning within a few centimeters, and long-term measurements at the millimeter level.
[20:12:51] <XXCoder> *only one country
[20:13:14] <pink_vampire> https://www.gps.gov
[20:13:26] <JT-Cave> we don't have many cases in Butler county but the next one over has over a 100 now but that's nothing to St. Louis with 7k cases
[20:13:41] <XXCoder> i think it got to 2000 cases here in peirce
[20:14:03] <XXCoder> yeah 2097 cases. 88 died so far
[20:14:14] <pink_vampire> I stopped counting.. in NY
[20:14:24] <XXCoder> yah ny is nuts.
[20:14:51] <pink_vampire> good mask, and never go out
[20:15:02] <XXCoder> i wear mask to work everyday
[20:15:13] <XXCoder> and elsewhere
[20:15:16] <JT-Cave> do you wear it at work?
[20:15:24] <pink_vampire> I hope it's the good type
[20:15:48] <XXCoder> i use good stuff when out and around. I use ok cloth ones for work. lower chance since few people in large area
[20:15:56] <JT-Cave> what's "the good type"?
[20:16:13] <pink_vampire> p100
[20:16:13] <XXCoder> more layers cloth
[20:16:29] <XXCoder> I cant breathe though n95 type my lungs is too weak
[20:16:36] <JT-Cave> I only have n95
[20:16:53] <JT-Cave> it has a easy exhale valve on it
[20:16:56] <pink_vampire> XXCoder: get a positive pressure mask
[20:17:08] <XXCoder> ya bit pricy
[20:17:40] <pink_vampire> and life?
[20:17:53] <XXCoder> is worthless heh
[20:18:02] <XXCoder> kidding
[20:18:22] <XXCoder> honestly theres only so much I can do. postive pressure would have to run 11 hours for example for work
[20:18:56] <pink_vampire> AC outlets run 24/7
[20:19:16] <XXCoder> nah i walk all over sometimes to get tools, etc
[20:19:49] <pink_vampire> I know walmart sell 100' extension cords
[20:19:55] <XXCoder> lol
[20:20:11] <pink_vampire> also generators

[20:20:13] <SpeedEvil> XXCoder: positive pressure battery mask
[20:20:29] <XXCoder> those last 4 hours maybe at most then need recharge
[20:21:39] <JT-Cave> https://en.wikipedia.org(film)
[20:21:51] <XXCoder> lol i read abook of that
[20:22:24] <veegee> I have an optrel PAPR welding helmet and face shield
[20:22:31] <veegee> those last 10 hours on a charge
[20:22:58] <SpeedEvil> I have a prototype HEPA filter (from a vacuum) + fan + ..., which seems to work fine
[20:22:58] <veegee> I'm going to put a breathing air supply line drop in my workshop because I don't like wearing the belt
[20:23:03] <SpeedEvil> I need to finishit
[20:23:13] <pink_vampire> it is not a leaf blower, you just need to make slight pressure inside the mask so it will leak out even when you take air in.
[20:23:52] <veegee> yeah you need to calculate the maximum air flow when inhaling
[20:24:02] <veegee> and make it always higher than that
[20:24:53] <SpeedEvil> Indeed
[20:25:09] <SpeedEvil> IIRC 450lpm or so, under hard exercise
[20:25:18] <SpeedEvil> I would have to look it up
[20:25:49] <veegee> just measure your lung volume first
[20:26:01] <veegee> then time your fastest breath
[20:26:16] * JT-Cave wanders upstairs to relax
[20:26:30] <pink_vampire> you can get a kit to make any 3m mask a positive presser one
[20:26:32] <veegee> and for me quadruple the airflow because I sweat a lot and need the extra air
[20:28:51] <pink_vampire> https://www.amazon.com
[20:28:59] <pink_vampire> I
[20:29:14] <XXCoder> 359 bucks lol
[20:29:18] <pink_vampire> I'm sure you can 3d print something like that
[20:29:32] <XXCoder> i suppose but nah
[20:29:51] <veegee> Yeah very easy to make
[20:29:53] <pink_vampire> it is just the connector for the filter, and 2 hoses with Y connector
[20:30:02] <SpeedEvil> I made mine out of a 2l plastic bottle and heat-shrunk it onto a filter
[20:30:07] <SpeedEvil> with some spacers
[20:30:45] <pink_vampire> or to just drill a hole in the mask and install some air fitting

[21:12:28] <veegee> Hmmm I have a LOT of 7018 welding rods. Can I scrape off the flux and just use them as TIG filler rods?
[21:12:53] -!- infornography has joined #linuxcnc
[21:13:07] <veegee> Or does the coating actually participate in the strength of the final weld bead when used during regular stick welding?
[21:13:31] <veegee> I'd rather not purchase 1/8" ER70S-2 rods when I have so many 7018 sticks
[21:13:46] <SpeedEvil> I don't think it contributes metallurgically
[21:13:54] <SpeedEvil> If your parts are 100% clean beforehand
[21:14:15] <SpeedEvil> Otherwise you may get slag that you would not get if you used the flux
[21:14:28] <veegee> yeah of course I'm going to clean everything fully
[21:14:41] <SpeedEvil> I don't know what happens if you try to use fluxed rod with TIG
[21:14:54] <SpeedEvil> Cracking it off would be the sensible solution
[21:15:50] <veegee> yeah using them with the flux would be silly, never heard of anyone doing that in a serious application
[21:16:02] <veegee> it would clog up the gas lens with the spatter for sure
[21:24:39] <roycroft> when you pull out a 7018 rod, plug in your stinger and user your welder in smaw mode :)
[21:25:22] <roycroft> or better yet, put all that 7018 rod on craigslist and use the money you get for it to get some proper filler rod
[21:28:43] <SpeedEvil> Do you actually care about a particular yield strength?
[21:28:53] <SpeedEvil> Or can you just do a test weld and call it good?
